The Gospel of Matthew Chapter 8 Verse 5 thru 17

5 When he entered Capernaum, a centurion approached him and appealed to him, 6 saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, suffering dreadfully.” 7 He said to him, “I will come and cure him.” 8 The centurion said in reply, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof; only say the word and my servant will be healed. 9 For I too am a person subject to authority, with soldiers subject to me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come here,’ and he comes; and to my slave, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” 10 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Amen, I say to you, in no one in Israel have I found such faith. 11 I say to you, many will come from the east and the west, and will recline with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at the banquet in the kingdom of heaven, 12 but the children of the kingdom will be driven out into the outer darkness, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.” 13 And Jesus said to the centurion, “You may go; as you have believed, let it be done for you.” And at that very hour [his] servant was healed. 14 Jesus entered the house of Peter and saw his mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever.15 He touched her hand, the fever left her, and she rose and waited on him. 16 When it was evening, they brought him many who were possessed by demons, and he drove out the spirits by a word and cured all the sick, 17 to fulfill what had been said by Isaiah the prophet: “He took away our infirmities and bore our diseases.”

In Matthew 8:5-17, we encounter the powerful story of a Centurion whose faith astounds Jesus. This Roman officer approaches Christ, pleading for healing for his paralyzed servant. His humility is striking; he recognizes his unworthiness to have Jesus enter his home. Yet, despite his position of authority, he has a profound understanding of Jesus' power. He knows that mere words from Jesus can command healing from afar, reflecting an unwavering faith that transcends traditional boundaries of worthiness.

The Centurion’s belief illustrates a fundamental truth of our faith: it is not our merit or righteousness that brings us to Christ, but our faith in His ability to save and heal. Jesus responds to the Centurion’s faith with admiration, exclaiming, “Truly, I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.” This moment serves as a profound reminder that faith, rather than status or religious pedigree, is what moves the heart of God.

In our own lives, we often feel unworthy, caught in the shadows of our shortcomings and failures. Yet, like the Centurion, we can approach Jesus with confidence, believing that He can heal our wounds and transform our lives. His authority is unmatched; just a single word from Him can change everything. When we lay our burdens at His feet, we affirm our belief that, regardless of our past, His grace is sufficient.

As we reflect on this passage, let it motivate us to cultivate a faith that is bold and unwavering. Let us remember that it is our belief in Christ—the One who speaks and creation obeys—that grants us healing and restoration. So remember, just like the Centurion, your faith can indeed save you. “I am not worthy for you to enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.” Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. Ephesians 6:17-20

06-27-2026 Matthew 8 v0517

**Let It Be Done For You As You Have Believed**

In Capernaum, the sun did rise,

A centurion's heart, full of sighs,

He sought the Healer, pure and divine,

For a servant ill, by fate's cruel design.

With faith unyielding, he came to plead,

"No need for You to come," he agreed,

"For I am a man under authority's sway,

Just say the word, and my servant will stay."

Jesus marveled at such trust profound,

"Faith like this, nowhere shall be found,"

He spoke of kingdoms, of many shall feast,

From east and from west, the humble to the least.

Then to the centurion, He turned with grace,

"Go back to your house; your servant, embraced,

His healing awaits, your faith made you pray."

At that very hour, the fever went away.

As evening fell, with shadows long cast,

They brought forth the sick, the broken, the last,

With a touch and a word, He healed and restored,

Fulfillment of prophecy, love was outpoured.

"By His stripes we are healed," the testimonies rise,

In each heart there lingers, a whisper of skies,

For He bore our pain, took our sorrows of old,

In the quiet of night, His miracles unfold.

So remember the story of the centurion's plea,

A lesson in faith and humility,

For in every heart, where hope seems to dim,

A word from the Savior can bring us home again. Amen.
