The Letter to the Romans Ch 14 Verse 1 thru 12

1 Welcome anyone who is weak in faith, but not for disputes over opinions. 2 One person believes that one may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. 3 The one who eats must not despise the one who abstains, and the one who abstains must not pass judgment on the one who eats; for God has welcomed him. 4 Who are you to pass judgment on someone else’s servant? Before his own master he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand. 5 [For] one person considers one day more important than another, while another person considers all days alike. Let everyone be fully persuaded in his own mind. 6 Whoever observes the day, observes it for the Lord. Also whoever eats, eats for the Lord, since he gives thanks to God; while whoever abstains, abstains for the Lord and gives thanks to God. 7 None of us lives for oneself, and no one dies for oneself. 8 For if we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord; so then, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s. 9 For this is why Christ died and came to life, that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living. 10 Why then do you judge your brother? Or you, why do you look down on your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of God; 11 for it is written: “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bend before me, and every tongue shall give praise to God.” 12 So [then] each of us shall give an account of himself [to God].

In Romans 14:1-12, the Apostle Paul addresses the diversity of beliefs and practices among believers, urging them to welcome one another without judgment. He emphasizes that whether one observes a particular day or abstains from certain foods, each individual should do so with a heart directed toward the Lord. This passage reminds us that our actions—whether eating, drinking, or celebrating—should be underpinned by gratitude and devotion to God. “For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself,” Paul writes, illustrating that our lives and deaths are inextricably tied to our commitment to the Lord.

As we gather soon to remember my cousin Mike Carter, who passed away last night, I am reminded of this message in Romans 14:1-12, which speaks to the personal journey of faith each of us navigates. Mike, who at times seemed distant from giving glory to God, surprised me in our conversations by admitting that he was indeed a believer in Jesus Christ. His admission, though perhaps late in life, was a testament to the work of grace that can transform the heart. Now, as he has died to self, we find solace in the promise of eternal life through his faith. Just as Paul emphasizes that whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord, we can have confidence that Mike is embraced in God’s everlasting love, having transitioned into a life that reflects the true glory of His grace.

Today, as we mourn his loss, we find comfort in the words of Paul, knowing that Mike lived and died for the Lord. His legacy encourages us to carry on with the same spirit of thankfulness, regardless of our differences in practice or belief. May we remember that every day is an opportunity to honor God, to give thanks, and to love one another. In remembrance of Mike, let us live with hearts full of gratitude, embracing our unity in Christ, and trusting in God’s everlasting grace. Amen.

Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. For the repose of the soul of Mike Carter. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

We Live For The Lord And Die For The Lord

In the heart of faith, where grace does shine, 

A gentle call to love, a truth divine. 

With open arms and varied views, 

We learn to walk in others' shoes.

Some deem the day as special, bright, 

While others see it fade from sight. 

Each soul, in honor, must choose their way, 

In the garden of faith, let love hold sway.

Judge not the brother, whose heart may stray, 

For in God’s embrace, we find our way. 

From the great to the small, we all must stand, 

Before the Lord, with outstretched hand.

For all will bow on that coming morn, 

To give account, both blessed and worn. 

In every whisper, in thoughts we own, 

He knows our hearts, for we are His own.

So let us not quarrel or cast aside, 

But bear each other as Christ, our guide. 

With kindness and peace, we weave our thread, 

In a tapestry rich, where love is spread. Amen.
