The Gospel of Luke 6 v- 20 thru 23

27 “But to you who hear I say, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 To the person who strikes you on one cheek, offer the other one as well, and from the person who takes your cloak, do not withhold even your tunic. 30 Give to everyone who asks of you, and from the one who takes what is yours do not demand it back. 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you. 32 For if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do the same.”

Today Jesus presents a radical teaching that challenges conventional notions of love, kindness, and giving. In this passage, Jesus instructs His followers to love their enemies, do good to those who hate them, bless those who curse them, and pray for those who mistreat them. This exhortation stands out as a core principle of His ethical teachings, emphasizing that true love extends beyond mere affection for friends or family.

The call to love enemies is revolutionary; it overturns the common human instinct to respond to hostility with retaliation. By urging His followers to act in kindness towards those who oppose them, Jesus highlights the transformative power of love. This love is not dependent on the worthiness of the recipient but is a reflection of the character of God, who shows mercy and grace to all, regardless of their actions.

Moreover, Jesus emphasizes the concept of doing good without expecting anything in return. He asks, “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you?” This rhetorical question invites self-reflection on the authenticity of one’s love and the motivations behind one’s actions. True giving, generosity and kindness are marked by an attitude of selflessness and a willingness to serve those who may never reciprocate.

In verse 33, Jesus reinforces this idea by stating that even sinners love those who love them back. The challenge is to rise above this basic human inclination and to embody a higher standard of love that mirrors God’s unconditional grace. This teaching not only serves as a moral compass for personal conduct but also has profound implications for community and societal relationships, urging individuals to foster a culture of compassion and forgiveness amidst conflict and division. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

Ephesians 6:17-20

09-12-2024 Luke 6 V-2733

**Enemies love pray for those who curse you**

In a world where shadows dwell,

Where love's light often fades to tell,

A voice rises, pure and clear,

“Love your enemies, hold them dear.”

When hatred strikes with bitter sting,

Respond with kindness, let hope forever sing.

To those who curse, extend your grace,

In every heart, a sacred space.

Do good to those who wish you ill,

Let compassion flow, let hearts be still.

In prayerful whispers, lift them high,

For love can change the hardest sky.

What merit lies in loving friends,

If only warmth and cheer it sends?

But in the face of scorn and spite,

True love shines forth, a beacon bright.

If kindness flows for those who care,

What sets apart the heart laid bare?

For love, unbound by give and take,

Is the greatest gift we choose to make.

So let us bless, let kindness reign,

In every loss, in every pain.

For in this act, our spirits grow,

Reflecting grace, a radiant glow.

In loving foes, we find our way,

To break the chains, to light the day.

A world transformed by gentle hands,

Where love unites, and mercy stands. Amen.
