Sirach 3 V- 1 through 16
1 Children, listen to me, your father; act accordingly, that you may be safe. 2 For the Lord sets a father in honor over his children and confirms a mother’s authority over her sons. 3 Those who honor their father atone for sins; 4 they store up riches who respect their mother. 5 Those who honor their father will have joy in their own children, and when they pray they are heard. 6 Those who respect their father will live a long life; those who obey the Lord honor their mother. 7 Those who fear the Lord honor their father, and serve their parents as masters. 8 In word and deed honor your father, that all blessings may come to you. 9 A father’s blessing gives a person firm roots, but a mother’s curse uproots the growing plant. 10 Do not glory in your father’s disgrace, for that is no glory to you! 11 A father’s glory is glory also for oneself; they multiply sin who demean their mother. 12 My son, be steadfast in honoring your father; do not grieve him as long as he lives. 13 Even if his mind fails, be considerate of him; do not revile him because you are in your prime. 14 Kindness to a father will not be forgotten; it will serve as a sin offering—it will take lasting root. 15 In time of trouble it will be recalled to your advantage, like warmth upon frost it will melt away your sins. 16 Those who neglect their father are like blasphemers; those who provoke their mother are accursed by their Creator.
Sirach 3:1-16 offers profound wisdom on the significance of honoring one's parents, emphasizing the spiritual and temporal blessings that arise from such reverence. The text begins with a clear directive: "For the Lord sets a father in honor over his children, and the authority of a mother is given to her children." This establishes a divine framework where parents are seen as representatives of God's authority and love, making their honor a reflection of the respect due to God Himself.
As we commemorate the Holy Family, we are reminded of Jesus’ profound obedience to His earthly father, Joseph, and His unwavering fidelity to His Heavenly Father. This dual obedience highlights the importance of recognizing and valuing the roles of both earthly and divine parentage. Just as Jesus exemplified perfect submission and respect, we are called to embody these virtues in our relationships with our parents. The passage underscores that honoring one's parents is not merely a societal expectation but a sacred duty that aligns with God’s commandments.
Sirach further illustrates the blessings that accompany this honor, stating that good deeds toward parents are akin to sin offerings. This analogy illustrates that our respectful actions not only please God but also contribute to our own spiritual well-being. By caring for our parents, we cultivate a life filled with blessings, fostering peace and harmony within the family unit.
In today’s reflection, we are invited to consider how our actions toward our parents resonate with our faith. By honoring and serving them, we find a deeper connection to God’s purpose for our lives. Let us strive to emulate the example of Jesus, embracing our familial roles with love and reverence, knowing that such devotion brings us closer to divine grace. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

12-29-2024 Sirach 3 v0116
**Kindness for a Father will not be forgotten**
In the heart of wisdom, a truth unfolds,
A call to the children, in verses of old.
"Honor your parents," the sage's decree,
For in their embrace, God's Divine love we see.
A father’s authority, a mother’s embrace,
Reflects the divine in their sacred space.
Through trials and triumphs, together we stand,
In the bond of respect, we grow hand in hand.
Good deeds to our parents, like offerings rise,
A pathway to blessings, under heaven’s skies.
With kindness and patience, we lighten their load,
For love is the seed, and gratitude's the road.
As Jesus obeyed, in humble delight,
He honored His parents, both day and night.
In their quiet devotion, the Holy did dwell,
A model for us, in His story we tell.
So let us remember, in our daily quest,
To cherish and serve, give our very best.
For peace in our hearts, and joy that won’t cease,
In honoring parents, we find our true peace. Amen.
