The Letter to the Hebrews Chapter 5 V- One and Seven

1 Every high priest is taken from among men and made their representative before God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. 2 He is able to deal patiently with the ignorant and erring, for he himself is beset by weakness 3 and so, for this reason, must make sin offerings for himself as well as for the people. 4 No one takes this honor upon himself but only when called by God, just as Aaron was. 5 In the same way, it was not Christ who glorified himself in becoming high priest, but rather the one who said to him: “You are my son; this day I have begotten you”; 6 just as he says in another place: “You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.”

Hebrews 5:1-7 offers profound insights into the nature of priesthood and the divine calling to serve. The passage emphasizes that every high priest is chosen from among the people to represent them before God, offering gifts and sacrifices for sins. This calling is not merely a role but a sacred honor, as it connects the priest to both the divine and the human experience of suffering and redemption.

The verses highlight the importance of empathy in the priestly vocation. Priests are not only mediators of God's grace but also individuals who understand human frailty. They can relate to the struggles of the faithful because they, too, experience temptation and sorrow. This connection is crucial, as it allows priests to intercede on behalf of the people with compassion and understanding.

Moreover, the passage underscores that the priesthood is divinely ordained. Just as Aaron was appointed, so too are priests called by God, not out of personal ambition but through divine selection. This reinforces the belief that true priesthood is a gift from God, marked by humility and service.

In our own lives, the reverence we show to priests—such as when my wife and I kiss their hands—reflects our recognition of the sacred duty they fulfill. Those hands, which consecrate the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ, are instruments of salvation and grace. In this act, we honor their commitment to God and the role they play in bringing us closer to His presence.

Ultimately, Hebrews 5:1-7 invites us to reflect on the holiness of the priestly vocation, recognizing the call to serve, the importance of compassion, and the ultimate gift of salvation that flows through Christ, uniting us all in His eternal love. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. **You Are a Priest Forever**

In robes of grace, the priest stands tall,

Chosen from among us, heeding the call,

With hands anointed, a vessel divine,

To bridge the chasm, our hearts intertwine.

He bears our burdens, our sorrows laid bare,

With empathy woven in each whispered prayer,

In moments of struggle, he knows our plight,

Interceding for us, bringing hope to the night.

Through sacrifice offered, a covenant made,

In the breaking of bread, our fears start to fade,

The Body and Blood, a gift from above,

In this holy mystery, we find perfect love.

So let us honor, with reverent grace,

The hands of the priest, in their sacred place,

For through them flows mercy, salvation's embrace,

In the heart of our faith, we find our true space. Amen.
