The 1st Letter to the Corinthians Chapter 1 v-17 thru 21
17 For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with the wisdom of human eloquence, so that the cross of Christ might not be emptied of its meaning.18 The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the learning of the learned I will set aside.” 20 Where is the wise one? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made the wisdom of the world foolish? 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world did not come to know God through wisdom, it was the will of God through the foolishness of the proclamation to save those who have faith.
In 1 Corinthians 1:17-21, the Apostle Paul addresses the Corinthian church's divisions and the nature of his preaching. He emphasizes that his mission was not to baptize but to proclaim the gospel, highlighting the importance of the message over the act of baptism itself. Paul expresses concern that the message of Christ should not be diluted by human wisdom or eloquence, which he views as potentially undermining the power of the cross.
Paul asserts that the cross is central to the Christian faith, representing both the wisdom and the power of God. He contrasts the wisdom of God with the wisdom of the world, illustrating how God’s ways often defy human understanding. The world, in its pursuit of wisdom and knowledge, fails to recognize the profound truth of the gospel—that salvation comes through what appears to be foolishness to human eyes: the crucifixion of Christ.
In verse 21, Paul reflects on God’s plan to use the “foolishness” of preaching to save those who believe, indicating that God’s wisdom surpasses human logic. This paradox challenges the Corinthians—many of whom were influenced by philosophical thought and cultural pride—to reconsider their understanding of power and wisdom.
Ultimately, Paul's message in these verses serves to unify the church around the core tenets of faith, urging believers to focus on the transformative power of the gospel rather than the divisions that arise from human distinctions and preferences. By elevating the message of the cross above all else, Paul calls the Corinthians to embrace a faith rooted in humility and dependence on God's strength rather than human achievement. This passage encourages Christians today to reflect on the significance of the cross and the simplicity of the gospel in a complex world. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

Ephesians 6:17-20
08-30-2024 1 Corinthians 1 V-1721
**God made wisdom of the world foolish **
In Corinth’s heart, where voices clash,
Paul spoke of wisdom, not of flare and flash.
He came not with eloquent speech,
But with a truth that none could teach.
Not baptism’s rite did he proclaim,
But Christ, the cross, and His great name.
For what is power in human eyes?
A mystery hidden, a truth that defies.
The wise of the world, in knowledge so proud,
Seek after wisdom, they speak proud and loud.
Yet God, in His plan, chose what seems weak,
To show that His strength is in the meek.
The foolishness of the cross, profound,
Brings salvation’s joy to all around.
What seems absurd to reason’s might,
Is the beacon of hope, the darkest night.
So let not pride or division reign,
For in Christ’s love, we’re free from shame.
United we stand, in grace we find,
The wisdom of God, so pure and kind.
In every heart, let this truth dwell,
The gospel’s power, we all know so well.
For through the folly of words we share,
God’s saving eternal grace is everywhere. Amen.
