The Gospel of Luke Chapter 9 v- One thru Five

1 (Jesus) summoned the Twelve and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, 2 and he sent them to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal [the sick]. 3 He said to them, “Take nothing for the journey, neither walking stick, nor sack, nor food, nor money, and let no one take a second tunic. 4 Whatever house you enter, stay there and leave from there. 5 And as for those who do not welcome you, when you leave that town, shake the dust from your feet in testimony against them.”

Luke 9:1-5 presents a pivotal moment in the ministry of Jesus, where He empowers His disciples to carry on His work. In these verses, Jesus calls the Twelve Apostles together and gives them authority over demons and the ability to heal diseases. This commissioning marks a significant transition from Jesus’ personal ministry to a communal effort involving His followers.

The passage emphasizes the delegation of power and responsibility. By granting the disciples authority, Jesus not only validates their role as His representatives but also instills in them a sense of purpose and mission. The empowerment signifies that the work of the Kingdom of God is not confined to Jesus alone; rather, it is to be shared and disseminated through His followers.

Furthermore, Jesus instructs them to proclaim the Kingdom of God and heal the sick, highlighting the dual nature of their mission: spiritual proclamation and physical healing. This dual focus reflects the holistic approach of Jesus’ ministry, addressing both spiritual and physical needs.

Jesus also provides practical guidance on how the disciples should conduct their mission. He tells them to travel lightly, relying on the hospitality of others. This instruction teaches dependence on God and the graciousness of those they encounter, fostering relationships within the communities they visit.

The directive to shake off the dust from their feet if a town does not welcome them underscores the seriousness of their message. It serves as a warning about the consequences of rejecting the Kingdom of God.

In summary, Luke 9:1-5 illustrates the commissioning of the disciples, emphasizing empowerment, the dual mission of healing and proclamation, and the importance of community and receptivity to the Gospel message. It serves as a foundational moment in the establishment of the early Church, highlighting the ongoing mission of Christ through His followers. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. Ephesians 6:17-20

09-25-2024 Luke 9 V-0105

**Proclaiming the Kingdom of God**

In Galilee’s embrace, the Twelve are called,

By the gentle voice of Him who never stalled.

“Go forth, my friends, with power from above,

Spread the good news, share my boundless love.”

He grants them authority over the dark,

To heal the afflicted, to kindle the spark.

With each step they take, they carry His light,

Transforming the shadows, bringing forth sight.

“Proclaim the Kingdom, let the message ring,

For the hearts of the weary, you’ll be the spring.

Cure the sick, set the captives free,

In every small town, let my wonders eternally be.”

“Take nothing for travel, just faith in your hand,

Rely on the kindness of those in the land.

If they welcome you, let your peace remain,

But if they reject, let your heart not wane.”

Shake off the dust as a sign of release,

For the path you walk leads to hope and peace.

With courage, they ventured, His words in their hearts,

In the mission of love, each played their part.

So onward they journeyed, the Twelve sent away,

To share in the harvest, to light up the day.

In echoes of history, their courage still thrives,

For the spirit of Jesus forever survives. Amen.
