The Gospel of Luke 7 v- Two thru Ten

2 A centurion there had a slave who was ill and about to die, and he was valuable to him. 3 When he heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and save the life of his slave. 4 They approached Jesus and strongly urged him to come, saying, “He deserves to have you do this for him, 5 for he loves our nation and he built the synagogue for us.” 6 And Jesus went with them, but when he was only a short distance from the house, the centurion sent friends to tell him, “Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof. 7 Therefore, I did not consider myself worthy to come to you; but say the word and let my servant be healed. 8 For I too am a person subject to authority, with soldiers subject to me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come here,’ and he comes; and to my slave, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” 9 When Jesus heard this he was amazed at him and, turning, said to the crowd following him, “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.” 10 When the messengers returned to the house, they found the slave in good health.

Today we encounter the profound story of the healing of a centurion's servant. The centurion, a Roman officer, demonstrates remarkable faith in Jesus' authority. He sends Jewish elders to plead for Jesus to heal his servant, acknowledging his unworthiness to have Jesus in his home. The centurion states, “But say the word, and my servant will be healed,” illustrating his deep trust in Jesus' power. When Jesus hears this, he marvels at the centurion's faith, declaring that he has not found such great faith even in Israel. The servant is healed at that very moment, showcasing the intersection of faith, authority, and divine healing.

This passage resonates deeply within the Catholic Church, particularly as it reflects the humility and faith required when approaching the Eucharist. Before partaking in the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ in the Eucharist, the people of the Mass often recite a form of the centurion's statement: "Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed." This prayer acknowledges human unworthiness while simultaneously expressing profound faith in Christ's healing presence in the Eucharist.

The connection between the centurion's faith and the Eucharistic celebration illustrates the Church's understanding of the sacrament as a source of grace and healing. Just as the centurion recognized Jesus' authority and power to heal from a distance, we Catholics believe that through the Eucharist, Jesus is truly present and offers spiritual nourishment. This narrative serves as a reminder of the importance of humility and faith in our Christian journey, especially as we prepare to receive the Lord in the sacred mystery of the Eucharist. This is why I seek His Real Presence every day to live Spirit-Led God-Inspired and Christ-Fed. ® Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. **Not Worthy to Enter Under My Roof**

In Capernaum’s streets, a centurion stood,

A heart full of faith, a spirit so good.

With a servant so dear, he faced a great plight,

A plea for his healing, a call in the night.

He sent forth the elders, with hope in their eyes,

“Go find the great healer, let mercy arise.

For I am unworthy, my house is too small,

Yet I know with a word, he can conquer it all.”

With authority spoken, the word of the Lord,

“Just say that it’s done, and my servant’s restored.”

As Jesus approached, he marveled and said,

“No faith like this found, not in Israel’s stead.”

The centurion’s trust, a beacon so bright,

A lesson in love, in humility’s light.

For in every heart, there’s a longing to feel,

The power of Christ, the promise to heal.

So let us remember, when we gather in prayer,

To seek with conviction, with hearts laid bare.

“Lord, I am not worthy,” we humbly proclaim,

Yet in the Eucharist, we cherish Your name.

With faith like the centurion, we come to the feast,

In the Body and Blood, our spirits released.

For just as he spoke, so too shall we find,

In the grace of the Lord, our souls intertwined. Amen.
