The Gospel of Matthew Chapter 18 Verse 1 thru 14

1 At that time the disciples approached Jesus and said, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2 He called a child over, placed it in their midst, 3 and said, “Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me. 6 “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. 7 Woe to the world because of things that cause sin! Such things must come, but woe to the one through whom they come! 8 If your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter into life maimed or crippled than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into eternal fire. 9 And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into fiery Gehenna. 10 “See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father. [11] 12 What is your opinion? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine in the hills and go in search of the stray? 13 And if he finds it, amen, I say to you, he rejoices more over it than over the ninety-nine that did not stray. 14 In just the same way, it is not the will of your heavenly Father that one of these little ones be lost.

In Matthew 18:1-14, Jesus demonstrates a profound concern for children, emphasizing their importance within the Kingdom of Heaven. When His disciples ask who the greatest in the kingdom is, He calls a child to Him, highlighting the need for humility and trust in God. This act is significant; children exemplify pure faith, innocence, and dependence—qualities that are essential for true discipleship.

Jesus’ insistence on valuing "the little ones" extends beyond mere childlike faith; it implicates a broader message about spiritual humility and the way we should treat vulnerable members of society. The term "little ones" symbolizes not just children but anyone who is marginalized, humble, or in need of protection and guidance. This reflects God's heart for justice and compassion, urging us to nurture those who may be overlooked or dismissed.

Furthermore, Jesus warns against causing these little ones to stumble, illustrating the serious consequences of leading the innocent astray. This calls us to examine our actions and attitudes towards others, demonstrating that our treatment of the vulnerable reveals our character and alignment with God’s will.

Additionally, in verses 12-14, Jesus uses the parable of the lost sheep to express God’s love and pursuit of those who are lost or vulnerable. Just as a shepherd would leave the ninety-nine to find the one, God’s heart is unwavering in His care for the marginalized. This illustrates that every individual, no matter how small or insignificant they may seem, holds immense value in the eyes of God.

Today through His emphasis on children and the vulnerable, Jesus teaches us about humility, responsibility, and the infinite worth of every person in God’s Kingdom. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. Not The Will of The Father For Little Ones To Be Lost

In the stillness of a gathered throng, 

Disciples turned to question, where they belong, 

“Who is the greatest?” they called with intent, 

A search for the honor, the glory well-spent. 

But Jesus, with wisdom, drew closer that day, 

He called forth a child, in innocence He would say, 

“Here lies the kingdom; in hearts pure and small, 

Receive them in wonder, for they’re greatest of all.” 

With arms wide open, He welcomed the meek, 

In each tender spirit, His message did speak: 

“Be humble like children, in love you must grow, 

For the path to My heart is through kindness you show.” 

“Beware of those who would lead them astray, 

For the least of My fold, I’m guarding each day. 

If lost, I will seek them, no effort is too great; 

For one little lamb is of infinite weight.” 

So cherish each soul, and nurture their light, 

In the eyes of the Father, every child’s a delight. 

For love knows no boundaries, no age and no size, 

In the heart of the humble, the true greatness lies. 

Lost sheep in the meadow, find solace in grace, 

In every small gesture, in every warm embrace. 

Let love be our measure, compassion our call, 

For in the heart of the faithful, Jesus is greatest of all. Amen.
