The Gospel of Matthew Ch 18 Verse One thru Ten

1 At that time the disciples approached Jesus and said, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2 He called a child over, placed it in their midst, 3 and said, “Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me. 6 “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. 7 Woe to the world because of things that cause sin! Such things must come, but woe to the one through whom they come! 8 If your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter into life maimed or crippled than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into eternal fire. 9 And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into fiery Gehenna. 10 “See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father.

In Matthew 18:1-10, the disciples approach Jesus, seeking to understand who among them is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Instead of assigning a specific title or honor, Jesus brings a humble child into their midst. He tells them that unless they become like children, they will never enter the kingdom. This profound lesson reveals the essence of true greatness in God's eyes: humility, innocence, and reliance on God.

To be great in the kingdom means embracing a posture of humility, much like a child. Children possess an openness and trust that many adults struggle to maintain. They do not seek status or acclaim; instead, they welcome love, protection, and guidance. Jesus emphasizes that greatness comes from a willingness to be vulnerable and to recognize our dependence on Him. When we humble ourselves, we are in the best position to receive the love and grace that God offers.

Furthermore, Jesus highlights the importance of welcoming those who are seen as the least among us, especially children. When we embrace and care for the vulnerable, we are, in fact, extending that love to Christ Himself. The King of Heaven identifies deeply with the innocent and oppressed, reminding us that to lift others up is to honor Him.

As you reflect on these verses, remember that you, too, can be great in the kingdom of heaven. All it takes is a heart willing to humble itself and an openness to receive others—especially the least among us. Embrace the call to be childlike in your faith and to welcome every child in His name. In doing so, you reflect the love and humility of Christ, forever drawing closer to His kingdom. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

Ephesians 6:17-20

10-01-2026 Matthew 18 v0110

Do Not Despise One Of These Little Ones

In a world where hearts compete,

Disciples gathered at Jesus’ feet,

They questioned, "Who’s the greatest of all?"

In their quest for power, they stood mistakenly tall.

But with a smile, He beckoned one near,

A little child, so innocent and clear,

“Let them come!” His voice rang true,

“For in such as these, the kingdom breaks through.”

With humility’s grace, we’re invited to see,

That the path to greatness is simple, yet free,

To lower our pride, to open our heart,

In the realm of the wise, a new journey must start.

“Whoever humbles themself like this little one,

In heaven’s embrace, they’ve already begun,

To receive every blessing, every gift from above,

To dwell in the light, wrapped in pure love.”

He warns of the dangers that lead us astray,

To cause one to stumble, to lose their way,

“Better to lose what you hold dear and close,

Than to lead a child to despair or something gross.”

So heed this lesson, let innocence thrive,

In the warmth of compassion, let kindness arrive,

For in the small, we find our place,

In humility, gentleness, we mirror His grace.

With the least among us, we find our true home,

In the arms of the faithful, no longer we roam,

For greatness is found in love’s pure intent,

In the heart of a child, God’s kingdom is sent. Amen.
