The Gospel of Matthew Chapter 14 Verse 22 thru 33

22 Then he made the disciples get into the boat and precede him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. 23 After doing so, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When it was evening, he was there alone. 24 Meanwhile the boat, already a few miles offshore, was being tossed about by the waves, for the wind was against it. 25 During the fourth watch of the night, he came toward them, walking on the sea. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the sea they were terrified. “It is a ghost,” they said, and they cried out in fear. 27 At once [Jesus] spoke to them, “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.” 28 Peter said to him in reply, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” 29 He said, “Come.” Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw how [strong] the wind was he became frightened; and, beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31 Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 After they got into the boat, the wind died down. 33 Those who were in the boat did him homage, saying, “Truly, you are the Son of God.”

In Matthew 14:22-33, we find a powerful narrative that speaks to our hearts about courage and faith. After the miraculous feeding of the 5,000, Jesus urges His disciples to get into a boat and cross to the other side of the sea while He retreats to pray. As evening falls, a fierce storm arises, and the disciples find themselves tossed about by the waves, filled with fear. Yet it is in this moment of turbulence that Jesus approaches them, walking on the water. His words, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid,” remind us of His unwavering presence, even amidst our struggles.

Peter, ever the bold one, steps out in faith at Jesus' command, demonstrating a profound lesson for all of us: when Jesus calls, we must respond, no matter how daunting the circumstances may seem. He walks on the water as long as his focus remains on Jesus. But when doubt creeps in, he begins to sink. This teaches us that fear can easily take hold when we shift our gaze away from Christ. Jesus reaches out, saving Peter, reflecting His compassion and readiness to rescue us in our moments of weakness.

Like Peter, we may face turbulent seas in our lives—storms that threaten our peace and make us feel overwhelmed. Yet, Jesus encourages us to take courage and not be afraid. Whatever challenges we face in this world, we are reminded that our strength lies in our faith. We must hold tightly to Jesus, trusting His commands and responding to them with unwavering faith.

Let us encourage one another to keep our eyes on Jesus, even in the fiercest storms. He is our refuge, our strength, and with Him, we can face anything. Remember, don’t let your storm tell you how big it is. You tell the storm how big your God is. Amen.

Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. Lord Save Me O You Of Little Faith

In twilight’s hush, the moon did rise, 

Upon the Sea of Galilee’s sighs, 

The boat adrift in shadowed calm, 

Held weary hearts yet cloaked in balm. 

He called them forth to cross the tide, 

Their faith in Him, their faithful guide, 

But winds arose, and waters churned, 

In fear’s embrace, their spirits burned. 

And there, amid the tempest’s roar, 

They saw Him walk, their hearts implore, 

“Take courage! It is I!” He said, 

And doubt that plagued them turned to dread. 

Yet brave was Peter, bold and true, 

“Lord, bid me come, if it be You!” 

With faith as his anchor, he stepped from the boat, 

On waves of doubt, his spirit afloat. 

But soon he faltered, the fear took hold, 

As the tempest raged, both fierce and cold, 

“Save me, Lord!” he cried in despair, 

And Jesus reached out, His love laid bare. 

With gentle hand, He pulled him near, 

“Why did you doubt, when I am here?” 

Together they walked, the storm subdued, 

In faith's embrace, they found their truth. 

Each step on water, each glance of grace, 

In trials of life, we find our place. 

For in the shadows, when fears entwine, 

He calls us forth to walk, divine. 

So when the waves of doubt arise, 

Remember the moments, lift your eyes. 

For Jesus is near, in tempest’s fight, 

He calms the storm and brings the light. Amen.
