The Gospel of Matthew Chapter 11 Verse 28 thru 30
28 “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”
In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus invites us with tenderness and strength, saying, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." This passage presents a striking paradox: the Son of God, an embodiment of divine power, reveals himself as meek and humble. It challenges us to reconcile our perception of strength with that of gentleness. While we often envision Jesus as a stalwart protector who fiercely defends our faith, here he exhibits a gentle, inviting spirit that beckons the weary souls seeking solace.
The concept of a "yoke" further enriches this invitation. In ancient agricultural societies, a yoke is a wooden frame used to harness oxen together, allowing them to pull loads efficiently. When Jesus speaks of his yoke, he is not demanding that we bear burdens alone; rather, he offers a partnership. To take on his yoke means to align our lives with his, sharing in the work of life with him by our side. This alignment eases our load, transforming burden into shared purpose.
When we accept Jesus' invitation to come to him, we find rest not by avoiding labor but through the reorientation of our efforts. For in this union with Christ, our struggles are met with his strength, and our weariness with his rest. The meekness of Jesus doesn't undermine his strength; instead, it enhances it, demonstrating that true strength lies in humility and service. Therefore, to embrace the yoke of Christ is to experience a profound shift, where our burdens are lightened in a relationship grounded in love, trust, and divine companionship.
This reminds me of a story. Once, I was teaching in the Florida Keys down in Tavernier and I was experiencing a flat tire on my way home from work so I pulled into a tire shop near my school. A man came out and saw the words on my car; “God First- All Else will fall Into Place.” He immediately commented how tough it had been lately calling on the Name of the Lord for his business was struggling and he wasn’t sure if would be able to keep it open much longer. I commented, “When we trust Jesus with everything our life has to offer, He can and will show you how easy His burdens are and how joyful His yoke can be for those who believe.” He commented, “But my reality is that Jesus can’t save my business and I’ll have to close soon.” Well, I replied, “Place God First in every decision and God will lead you to success by the joy you show for His Salvation.”
He grumbled a little and went to working on my tire. All of a sudden he yelled out, “OH MY GOD- JESUS CAUSED YOUR FLAT TIRE. God sent you here to help me find peace.” You see, the flat tire was caused by the Cross of a Crucifix as the man held it up in the in the air showing me what it was. I joyfully stated, “Praise God- His Yoke is easy and His burden light.” A month later I dropped in and said hello intending on praying with the man one-on-one. When he saw me pull up in the Evangelizer, (I had dipped my car in plastic paint called “Mango Orange” with a four-inch white Cross running down slight right of the middle.) The owner walked out with a smile and shook my hand and said, “Thanks for coming by and saying hello. I’ve been placing God First and my business has turned around and I’ve been wanting to pray with you.” We held hands and he began praying what it means to live for Jesus and ended by saying, “My burdens are now light because of Him.” The first time I prayed with him and this time he prayed with me. For today Jesus reminds us,
“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.” Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

**I Am Meek And Humble Of Heart**
In weary moments, hearts that ache,
Come to me, the promise to take.
With arms wide open, a refuge near,
“Come unto me,” whispers love, so clear.
The burdens heavy, the load we bear,
In silent struggles, we often despair.
But here is grace, a balm for the soul,
In His arms surrender, we’ll find ourselves whole.
Learn from the meek, the gentle and mild,
In His humble heart, we’re embraced like a child.
His yoke is easy, His burden light,
In the darkest of days, He brings forth His Might.
Rest for the weary, hope for the lost,
Trust in His mercy, no matter the cost.
For in every trial, each weary sigh,
He walks beside us, our spirits to comply.
So come weary traveler, let worries dissolve,
In the peace of His presence, our problems resolve.
For love like a river flows boundlessly free,
In Matthew’s sweet promise, our hearts find His key. Amen.
