The Gospel of Matthew Chapter 10 Verse 34 thru 42
34 “Do not think that I have come to bring peace upon the earth. I have come to bring not peace but the sword. 35 For I have come to set a man ‘against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; 36 and one’s enemies will be those of his household.’ 37 “Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; 38 and whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. 40 “Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me. 41 Whoever receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever receives a righteous man because he is righteous will receive a righteous man’s reward. 42 And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones to drink because he is a disciple—amen, I say to you, he will surely not lose his reward.”
In Matthew 10:34-42, Jesus speaks profoundly about the cost of discipleship, reminding us that following Him requires more than mere belief—it requires total commitment. He states that He did not come to bring peace, but a sword, illustrating how allegiance to Him can sometimes bring division, even among families. This powerful imagery serves to highlight the seriousness with which we must approach our faith.
To be a worthy disciple of Jesus Christ is to recognize that true life is not found in the comforts and distractions of this world but in a committed relationship with our Savior. Jesus calls us to take up our cross daily. This means that we are to embrace the sacrifices and challenges that come with living for Him. Each day is an opportunity to surrender our own desires and ambitions in favor of His will, trusting that through this surrender, we are not losing our lives, but rather finding the abundant life He promises.
In a world that often prioritizes self-interest, the call to discipleship invites us to lay aside our own agendas and embrace a life of service, love, and humility. We are reminded that in losing our lives—our selfishness, our need for approval, our pursuit of worldly comforts—we actually gain the eternal life that Jesus offers. This is the life that flourishes in heaven, even while we walk the earth.
As we strive to be worthy disciples, let us remember Jesus’ words and embrace the cross that leads to deeper fellowship with Him. Let us seek to fulfill His command to love others, serve those in need, and share the gospel truth. In doing so, we not only honor Christ, but we also discover our true purpose and become worthy ambassadors of His kingdom. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

Ephesians 6:17-20
07-13-2026 Matthew 10 v3442
**He Will Surely Not Lose His Reward**
In shadows cast where choices lie,
A voice speaks clear, yet soft as a sigh,
“Do not suppose I come to bring
An easy peace, nor gentle ring.
For love may pierce, as sword’s keen edge,
And hearts may tremble at the pledge;
The bonds that bind with blood and kin,
Shall face the truth, where faith begins.
He who loves father, mother dear,
More than the One who draws us near,
Is not found worthy of the call,
To serve the Light, to rise, not fall.
The disciple bears the Master’s name,
And in that walk, he finds no fame;
Yet in the loss, the world may claim,
He finds himself, and life’s true aim.
A cup of water, given in grace,
To little ones, in that warm embrace,
Rewards await, though often unseen,
In acts of love, we meet the Pristine.
So take the path, though narrow, steep,
In every sacrifice, His truths we keep;
For in the giving, we shall find,
The holy treasure, heart entwined.” Amen.
