The Gospel of Luke Ch 9 Verse 43 thru 45

43 And all were astonished by the majesty of God. While they were all amazed at his every deed, he said to his disciples, 44 “Pay attention to what I am telling you. The Son of Man is to be handed over to men.” 45 But they did not understand this saying; its meaning was hidden from them so that they should not understand it, and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.

In Luke 9:43-45, Jesus reveals a profound truth about his impending suffering and death, stating that “the Son of Man is to be handed over to men.” This declaration comes amidst a moment of awe, where the disciples witness Jesus’ miraculous works, causing confusion about his true identity and mission. The disciples did not understand this statement for several reasons.

First, their expectations of the Messiah were heavily influenced by cultural and political hopes for a liberator who would overthrow Roman oppression and restore Israelite sovereignty. The notion of a suffering Messiah was foreign to them and contradicted their understanding of power and leadership. The revelation of Jesus’ suffering was a radical departure from their expectations and was likely met with disbelief.

Moreover, the text indicates that the meaning of Jesus' words was hidden from the disciples. This divine obscurity served a purpose; at that moment, they were not ready to grasp the full significance of His mission. Understanding the necessity of Jesus' suffering and death would emerge later, particularly through the lens of the resurrection, which would transform their comprehension of his life and work.

The disciples’ fear to inquire further about this statement signals their confusion and trepidation. They were accustomed to seeing Jesus as a miracle worker, healer, and teacher, yet the idea of his suffering was unsettling. Asking questions would require them to confront their own misunderstandings and the uncomfortable reality of Jesus’ fate.

In this passage, we see the interplay of divine revelation and human readiness. The disciples’ journey toward understanding would unfold gradually, requiring them to wrestle with their assumptions and ultimately embrace a new understanding of Jesus’ mission centered on love, sacrifice, and redemption. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

They Were Afraid To Ask Him

In the midst of a crowd, a marvel unfolds, 

Miracles whispered, as the sacred truth molds. 

Yet hearts were bewildered, minds filled with strife, 

As Jesus spoke softly, foretelling His life. 

"Listen well, friends," He implores in the day, 

"The Son of Man will suffer; this burden I’ll pay. 

Handed to foes, in shadows I’ll tread, 

For the plans of the Father must lead to my dread." 

The wonders astonish, yet few seem to see, 

The depth of His mission, the cost for the free. 

The weight of the kingdom, a secret concealed, 

While hope and despair in the hearts of men wield. 

"Do not be afraid," in their hearts, He will sow, 

For the path that He walks is to love, not to foe. 

Yet fear clouds the vision, the truth shrouded tight, 

In the hearts of the faithful, dimmed by the night. 

So let us remember, in joy and in pain, 

The journey of Jesus, our loss and our gain. 

For though He foretold of the trials ahead, 

In love's greatest story, all hearts must be fed. Amen.
