The Gospel of Luke Chapter 8 Verse 19 thru 21
19 Then his mother and his brothers came to him but were unable to join him because of the crowd. 20 He was told, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside and they wish to see you.” 21 He said to them in reply, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it.”
In Luke 8:19-21, we find an account where Jesus' mother and brothers come to see Him. When informed that His family is waiting outside, Jesus responds, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it.” This passage raises questions about the nature of Jesus' family relationships, particularly concerning the idea of "blood brothers."
The Catholic Church teaches that Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary and emphasizes her perpetual virginity—meaning she remained a virgin before, during, and after the birth of Jesus. This doctrine asserts that Mary had no other biological children apart from Jesus. As such, the term "brothers" in this context has been interpreted in various ways. In the original Greek text, the word used, "adelphoi," can be understood to refer not only to biological siblings but also to close relatives or even spiritual kin.
The Church posits that those referred to as Jesus' brothers could include His cousins or other close family relations. This interpretation is reinforced by the understanding of kinship in Jewish culture at the time, where broader definitions of family were commonplace.
By emphasizing this aspect of Jesus' identity and His unique relationship with Mary, the Catholic Church highlights that His divine nature and mission were never compromised by earthly family ties. Through Luke 8:19-21, Jesus reminds His listeners that true family bonds extend beyond blood relations; they are rooted in faith and obedience to God. Thus, the Church teaches that being part of Jesus' family metaphorically involves hearing and acting upon God's word, fostering a community built on love and devotion rather than mere biological connections. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

Ephesians 6:17-20
09-23-2025 Luke 8 v1921
**Hear the Word of God and Act On It**
In the midst of the throng, His voice rang clear,
When word reached Him—Mother and kin are near,
With a gaze that transcended the ties of the womb,
He shared a truth that banished all gloom.
“My mother and brothers,” He said with grace,
“Are those who find light in faith’s warm embrace.
It’s not blood that binds us in this sacred space,
But the echoes of God’s word in each heart and place.”
So let us hear closely, and let us respond,
For in faith’s gentle call, we’re drawn ever fond.
With hands linked in love, we are never apart,
In the family of Jesus, we find the true heart. Amen.
