The Gospel of Luke Ch 6 Verse 12 thru 16
12 In those days he departed to the mountain to pray, and he spent the night in prayer to God. 13 When day came, he called his disciples to himself, and from them he chose Twelve, whom he also named apostles: 14 Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, 15 Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called a Zealot, 16 and Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.
In Luke 6:12-16, we witness a pivotal moment in the Gospel where Jesus retreats for a night of prayer before choosing His twelve apostles. This decision is monumental; these twelve men would go on to spread the Gospel and lay the foundation of the Church. Among them were Saints Simon and Jude, whose feast we commemorate today. Simon, known as the Zealot, and Jude, often called Thaddeus, are symbols of diverse backgrounds coming together in faith to preach Christ's message of love and redemption.
As we reflect on this scripture and the lives of these apostles, we are reminded that the calling to be an apostle is not restricted to a select few who walked with Jesus. Each of us is invited to embrace this mission in our daily lives. Just as Simon and Jude left everything to follow Christ and share His truth, we, too, can make our lives a testament to His love.
Think about how you can embody the spirit of an apostle today. Perhaps it's through acts of kindness, sharing your faith story with someone who needs hope, or simply being a listening ear for a friend in need. Each small gesture contributes to the larger tapestry of God’s love in the world.
Today, let’s honor Saints Simon and Jude by committing ourselves anew to this calling. Pray for the courage to echo Christ’s love and teachings in your interactions. Let us step forward as modern apostles, each in our unique way, inspired to illuminate the world around us with the light of faith in Jesus! Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

**Jesus Called His Disciples His 12 Apostles*
In the quiet of the night, a mountain high,
He climbed to seek the heavens, beneath the vast sky.
With fervent heart and purpose clear,
He called to God, for strength was near.
Twelve men He chose, from the crowd and the throng,
Fishermen, rebels, who’d right the wrong.
Simon, Peter, the rock of the faith,
Andrew, his brother, a bond with no waste.
James and John, the sons of thunder,
With fervor and passion, they'd never plunder.
Philip and Bartholomew, Nathaniel's grace,
Matthew the taxman, transformed in his place.
Thomas, the doubter, who would come to believe,
James, son of Alphaeus, who would not deceive.
Thaddeus, the faithful, and Simon, the zealot,
In a world so divided, they’d stand to by His ballot.
Judas Iscariot, in shadows to roam,
The choosing of twelve, to bring many home.
From scribes to fishermen, their hearts interlace,
With every selection, a story of grace.
Each one unique, yet bound by His call,
To spread forth the message, to love one and all.
In trials and triumphs, together they’d stand,
The foundation of faith, in His promised land.
So, let us remember their journey, their plight,
How from darkness to promise, they followed the light.
For in choosing the twelve, with purpose so grand,
He forged a new life, with His divine hand. Amen.
