The Gospel of Luke Ch 14 Verse 7 thru 11

7 He told a parable to those who had been invited, noticing how they were choosing the places of honor at the table. 8 “When you are invited by someone to a wedding banquet, do not recline at table in the place of honor. A more distinguished guest than you may have been invited by him, 9 and the host who invited both of you may approach you and say, ‘Give your place to this man,’ and then you would proceed with embarrassment to take the lowest place. 10 Rather, when you are invited, go and take the lowest place so that when the host comes to you he may say, ‘My friend, move up to a higher position.’ Then you will enjoy the esteem of your companions at the table. 11 For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

In Luke 14:7-11, we find a profound lesson on humility and the nature of true exaltation. Jesus observes the attitudes of the guests at a feast, taking note of how they choose places of honor for themselves. Through this observation, He addresses a deeper issue of pride and perception. He tells a parable about selecting a seat at the table, encouraging guests to take the lowest seat instead of striving for the highest. Why? Because taking the lowly position allows for the possibility of being honored rather than humiliated.

This teaching encapsulates a timeless principle: "For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted." These words challenge us to reconsider our pursuits of status, recognition, and power. In a world that often celebrates self-promotion, Jesus reminds us that true greatness comes through humility. When we attempt to elevate ourselves, we often fall farther than we anticipated, while humility opens the door to genuine honor.

Humility isn’t about self-deprecation or diminishing one’s worth; rather, it’s a recognition of our place in a larger story and an acknowledgment that our value comes from our Creator. When we embrace humility, we can serve others authentically and create meaningful connections.

As we reflect on these verses, we are reminded that God values a humble heart. In our own lives, let us strive to lift others up, to serve rather than to seek the limelight. By doing so, we align ourselves with God’s Kingdom values, where the last shall be first, and the humble shall be exalted. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

Ephesians 6:17-20

10-31-2026 Luke 14 v0711

One Who Humbles Himself Will Be Exalted

In a hall where whispering guests convene,

Amidst the chatter, a lesson unseen,

Jesus observed as they chose their place,

Self-seeking hearts in a fervent race.

To the front they hurried, a proud display,

Claiming the honor, seeking the praise,

But with gentle wisdom, the Teacher spoke clear,

A parable simple, yet profound and dear.

“When you are invited, take the last seat,

Let humility’s grace be your guiding feat.

For when the host sees your modesty shown,

He may lift you up, make your worth known.”

For those who exalt themselves, He proclaimed,

Will find in the end, their own pride shamed.

But those who are humble, who quietly stand,

Will find honor bestowed, like gold in the hand.

So seek not the first, nor the brightest of beams,

In the shadows of meekness, find hope in your dreams.

For in every banquet, life’s table is spread,

The greatest among us are those who are led.

In echoes of wisdom from ages of lore,

A gentle reminder to open our door—

To love and to serve, with hearts open wide,

For the humble shall rise, and the proud shall subside. Amen.
