10-30-2026 Luke 14 v0106 But They Kept Silent
The Gospel of Luke Ch 14 Verse One thru Six
1 On a sabbath he went to dine at the home of one of the leading Pharisees, and the people there were observing him carefully. 2 In front of him there was a man suffering from dropsy. 3 Jesus spoke to the scholars of the law and Pharisees in reply, asking, “Is it lawful to cure on the sabbath or not?” 4 But they kept silent; so he took the man and, after he had healed him, dismissed him. 5 Then he said to them, “Who among you, if your son or ox falls into a cistern, would not immediately pull him out on the sabbath day?” 6 But they were unable to answer his question.
In Luke 14:1-6, we see an emotional encounter that unfolds on the Sabbath when Jesus is invited to dine at the house of a prominent Pharisee. As the scene develops, Jesus observes the guests vying for the best places at the table, revealing not only a social dynamic but also a deeper moral insight. This passage highlights Jesus' unwavering commitment to righteousness and compassion, even in the face of scrutiny. When a man with dropsy is presented to Him, Jesus poses a thought-provoking question: "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?"
In this moment, we witness the profound wisdom of Christ as He challenges the rigid interpretations of the law held by the Pharisees. Their silence in response reveals their inability to reconcile their traditions with the compassionate act of healing. Through this narrative, we are reminded of the importance of surrendering to Jesus, as He invites us to shift our focus from mere adherence to rules towards embodying the core of His teachings—love, mercy, and grace.
When we fully embrace surrender to Jesus and allow His spirit to guide us, we become equipped to answer any inquiries in His name. Just as Jesus skillfully navigated the complexities of the law, so too can we develop a deeper understanding of our faith and a readiness to respond to challenges that may arise. It is through surrender that we find clarity and purpose, enabling us to speak truthfully and confidently about our beliefs.
Let this passage inspire us to cherish our relationship with Christ, reminding us that, in humility and love, we can face any question or concern that comes our way. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

Ephesians 6:17-20

But They Kept Silent
In a quiet room where hearts convene,
A Sabbath gathering, serene yet keen.
Jesus, the Teacher, with wisdom profound,
In the presence of critics, His truth was unbound.
A man with a sickness, great pain in his frame,
Watched with anticipation, though it felt like a game.
The Pharisees sneered, their hearts cloaked in doubt,
They waited to question what the Lord was about.
“Is healing on this day a lawful decree?
Should mercy be set on a shelf, left to be?
For in bent limbs and burdens, is grace not our call?
To lift up the weary, to shine light for us all?”
Jesus, discerning their thoughts at a glance,
Spoke with authority, an invitation to dance.
“If one of you had a son or a beast,
Would you leave them in trouble, and let their plight feast?
Or would you not rescue, with love as your guide,
From the depths of despair, when compassion’s applied?”
He silenced their murmurs, their silence spoke loud,
For mercy and kindness will always be crowned.
The man was restored, in that moment so rare,
A testament spoken, God’s love laid bare.
In a world where rules can often constrict,
The heart of the law is compassion, that’s life thick.
So let us remember what true love demands,
To care for our neighbors, extend gentle hands.
For in acts of kindness, God’s spirit ignites,
In every small gesture, the heavens delight. Amen.
