The Gospel of Luke Ch 12 Verse 49 thru 53

49 “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing! 50 There is a baptism with which I must be baptized, and how great is my anguish until it is accomplished! 51 Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. 52 From now on a household of five will be divided, three against two and two against three; 53 a father will be divided against his son and a son against his father, a mother against her daughter and a daughter against her mother, a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.”

In Luke 12:49-53, Jesus speaks of bringing division rather than peace, stating that He has come to cast fire upon the earth. This fire symbolizes the transformative power of His message and the impending trials that will accompany it, particularly as He moves toward His ultimate sacrifice. The verse "There is a baptism with which I must be baptized" refers to His impending suffering and death.

In Biblical terms, baptism signifies a deep immersion into something, often relating to suffering or a significant change. For Jesus, this baptism is His crucifixion, where He will bear the weight of the world's sins.

His anguished anticipation—"how great is my anguish until it is accomplished"—reflects the emotional and spiritual turmoil He experiences as He approaches this heavy burden. Despite being the Messiah, Jesus was fully human, and the prospect of suffering and separation from God was profoundly difficult for Him to face. His anguish underscores His deep love for humanity; He knows that the path to salvation requires immense sacrifice.

Moreover, Jesus acknowledges that His mission may cause divisions, even within families. The call to follow Him often requires individuals to confront deep-seated beliefs and loyalties, which can lead to conflict. This does not mean Jesus seeks division for its own sake, but rather highlights the radical nature of His teachings and the commitment required to follow Him truly.

In essence, the verses encapsulate the gravity of Jesus' mission—His impending suffering, the transformative fire of His message, and the inevitable conflicts that arise when one commits to the radical love and truth He embodies. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

Ephesians 6:17-20

How Great Is My Anguish

In the heart of the Father, a fire is laid,

A fervent blaze, with love displayed.

In echoes of truth, the message unfurls,

A call for the weary, a light for the world.

With passion ablaze, He speaks with a might,

“I come not to bring just peace, but a fight.

A sword of division, to set hearts apart,

To challenge our comfort, to pierce every heart.

Son against father, the daughter will weep,

In shadows of faith, deep bonds may not keep.

For truth can be jarring, it stirs in the soul,

Demanding our choice, making broken lives whole.

Fire in the spirit that warms and divides,

Calls us to witness where justice abides.

It rouses the faithful, it beckons the lost,

To count every cost, to carry the cross.

So heed the cry, let the embers arise,

For unity's light must not blink from our eyes.

In love’s holy struggle, let courage increase,

As we fan the flames and find hope in His peace. Amen.
