The Gospel of Luke Ch 12 Verse 13 thru 21
13 Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to share the inheritance with me.” 14 He replied to him, “Friend, who appointed me as your judge and arbitrator?” 15 Then he said to the crowd, “Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.” 16 Then he told them a parable. “There was a rich man whose land produced a bountiful harvest. 17 He asked himself, ‘What shall I do, for I do not have space to store my harvest?’ 18 And he said, ‘This is what I shall do: I shall tear down my barns and build larger ones. There I shall store all my grain and other goods 19 and I shall say to myself, “Now as for you, you have so many good things stored up for many years, rest, eat, drink, be merry!”’ 20 But God said to him, ‘You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you; and the things you have prepared, to whom will they belong?’ 21 Thus will it be for the one who stores up treasure for himself but is not rich in what matters to God.”
In Luke 12:13-21, we encounter a powerful parable that illustrates the dangers of greed and the folly of placing our trust in material possessions. A man, consumed by his desire for wealth, approaches Jesus, asking Him to mediate a family inheritance dispute. Jesus replies by warning against all forms of greed, emphasizing that life is not defined by the abundance of our possessions.
The rich fool in this parable exemplifies how greed can lead to a self-centered and shortsighted life. He builds bigger barns to store his riches, believing that his wealth ensures his future. Yet, the abrupt twist comes when God calls him a "fool," revealing that his life is required of him that very night. This dramatic conclusion serves as a stark reminder of our mortal existence and how fleeting material wealth truly is.
Greed can corrode our relationships, cloud our decision-making, and even lead to isolation, as we prioritize accumulating wealth over investing in those around us. In contrast, faith in Christ Jesus can profoundly enhance our lives. It shifts our focus from earthly pursuits to eternal promises.
When we place our faith in Jesus, we are reminded that our true treasure lies not in what we possess but in our relationship with Him. By embodying values like generosity, compassion, and love, we experience a richness of spirit that surpasses material wealth. Ultimately, faith opens the door to eternal life, a promise that far outweighs the fleeting nature of earthly riches. In Christ, we find purpose, joy, and the assurance of everlasting life. Let us cherish this eternal truth and steer clear of the destructive path of greed. Amen.

At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Not Rich In What Matters To God
In a parable told, in the heart of the day,
A voice from the crowd cried, “Master, I pray,
Tell my brother to share, let our fortunes be fair,
For the lands have grown rich, and he doesn’t care.”
But Jesus, with wisdom, replied with a thought,
“Be wary of greed, for the heart can be caught.
Life's more than possessions, more than what’s stored,
For a man’s worth, dear friend, isn’t how much he hordes.”
Then He painted a picture, of a farmer so bold,
Whose harvest was plenty, amazing to behold.
He gazed at his bounty, and thought with delight,
“I’ll build bigger barns, for my goods to keep tight.”
But that very night, as he plotted and dreamed,
A voice from the heavens interrupted, it seemed.
“Fool! This night your soul will be demanded of thee,
Then who will inherit your riches, your lifelong spree?”
So Jesus concluded with lessons profound,
“Store not treasures on earth, where they fade, there’s no crown.
For the one who seeks wealth, and forgets what’s divine,
Is poor in the spirit, though his coffers may shine.”
In this tale there’s a warning, a light in the dark;
Value friendship and kindness, let love be your spark.
For treasures eternal, in the heart, do abide,
It’s not what we gather, but the love we provide. Amen.
