The Gospel of Luke Ch 11 Verse 47 thru 54

47 Woe to you! You build the memorials of the prophets whom your ancestors killed. 48 Consequently, you bear witness and give consent to the deeds of your ancestors, for they killed them and you do the building. 49 Therefore, the wisdom of God said, ‘I will send to them prophets and apostles; some of them they will kill and persecute’ 50 in order that this generation might be charged with the blood of all the prophets shed since the foundation of the world, 51 from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah who died between the altar and the temple building. Yes, I tell you, this generation will be charged with their blood! 52 Woe to you, scholars of the law! You have taken away the key of knowledge. You yourselves did not enter and you stopped those trying to enter.” 53 When he left, the scribes and Pharisees began to act with hostility toward him and to interrogate him about many things, 54 for they were plotting to catch him at something he might say.

Luke 11:47-54 presents a critical moment in Jesus' ministry where He confronts the religious leaders of His time. This passage begins with Jesus denouncing the actions of the Pharisees and experts in the law, highlighting a pattern of hypocrisy. He accuses them of building tombs for the prophets while their ancestors were responsible for the very deaths of those prophets. This reflects a deep irony; the religious leaders outwardly honored the prophets, yet their forebears had rejected and killed them.

Jesus' condemnation is a call to recognize the continuity of disobedience throughout generations. He points out that by honoring the prophets, they are, in effect, complicit in the same rejection and moral failure that characterized their ancestors. The tombs serve as a facade of reverence, masking their true intention and the hard-heartedness embedded within their practices.

Further, Jesus warns that the very generation that honors the prophets will also face judgment for their actions. He suggests that the true message of the prophets is being ignored by those who claim to follow God. This highlights a significant theme in the Gospel: the importance of genuine faith over mere outward displays of piety or tradition.

The passage closes with a powerful indictment against the religious leaders, as Jesus lists the "secrets" they withhold from the people, implying their role in obstructing access to true understanding of God’s will. The mention of the "key of knowledge" symbolizes the understanding and insight that they fail to provide to others. Overall, this passage serves as a warning against hypocrisy and a reminder to seek genuine understanding and a relationship with God, rather than mere ritualistic observance. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

Ephesians 6:17-20

They Acted With Hostility Towards Jesus

In the echo of the ages, a warning to unfold,

A tale from ancient scripture, in wisdom manifold.

Luke eleven speaks in shadows, of monuments we make,

Yet beneath their grand appearances, our very souls we shake.

“Woe to you, architects of grief,

You build the tombs of prophets slain,

Adorning stones in false belief,

While truth lies wrapped in chains of pain.

Your fathers killed, in rage, in scorn,

Yet you, in pride, pay homage bright,

With every brick, a curse reborn,

For you conceal the coming light.

You claim to know the law and hear,

Yet mercy’s call, you turn away,

In hearts of stone, there’s naught but fear,

Amidst your feasts, the lost decay.

You strain at gnats, yet swallow whole

The weightier matters, justice, grace.

With hollow shells, you clutch control,

As love is buried, lost in place.

“Woe to you,” the echoes chime,

“For even wisdom has its cost,

You shut the door on truth divine,

And in your grasp, the sinners lost.”

Yet beneath the weight of holy naught,

A glimmer shines through silent cries,

A call for change, a lesson taught,

To seek the truth with open eyes.

So heed the words of ancient days,

Let not your hearts be made of stone,

For in compassion’s warm embrace,

The light of love is brightly known. Amen.
