The Gospel of Luke Ch 11 Verse 37 thru 41

37 After he had spoken, a Pharisee invited him to dine at his home. He entered and reclined at table to eat. 38 The Pharisee was amazed to see that he did not observe the prescribed washing before the meal. 39 The Lord said to him, “Oh you Pharisees!  Although you cleanse the outside of the cup and the dish, inside you are filled with plunder and evil. 40 You fools! Did not the maker of the outside also make the inside? 41 But as to what is within, give alms, and behold, everything will be clean for you.

In Luke 11:37-41, Jesus addresses the Pharisees after being invited to dine with them. Upon His arrival, the Pharisee notices that Jesus does not perform the customary ritual washing before the meal, which leads to a moment of confrontation. The Pharisee is surprised, and Jesus seizes this opportunity to speak on the deeper issues of ritual purity versus inner cleanliness.

Jesus criticizes the Pharisees for their obsession with outward appearances and ceremonial practices while neglecting the more profound moral and ethical responsibilities. He emphasizes that their focus on washing hands and dishes is superficial; they fail to recognize the importance of being truly righteous and compassionate. Jesus calls attention to the need for inner purity, suggesting that true cleanliness comes from what is within a person—their heart and intentions—rather than mere external observance of the law.

Moreover, Jesus challenges the Pharisees to give to the poor what is already theirs, indicating that generosity and care for others are what truly matters in the eyes of God. By doing this, He underscores the radical shift from legality to love, from ritual to relationship. This passage serves as a reminder that religious practices, while not inherently wrong, can become hollow if they do not stem from a genuine desire to love and serve God and humanity.

Ultimately, Luke 11:37-41 is an invitation to self-reflection. It prompts believers to examine their own lives and priorities: Are we more concerned with how we appear to others than with the condition of our hearts? The call is clear—to seek authenticity in faith that transcends mere ritual and embraces a life of true service and love. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. Everything Will Be Clean For You

In a house where conversation flows,

A Pharisee invited, eager to pose.

Yet as the guest reclined for a meal,

A lesson emerged, profound and real.

With hands unwashed, the host did stare,

A ritual missed; he frowned in despair.

But Jesus, with wisdom, looked deep within,

To confront the notion of outer and skin.

"Clean are the cups, yet filth hides inside,

Whitewashed tombs like graves where the hearts have died.

Generosity’s grace should spill from the soul,

True purity blooms when we nourish the whole."

"Focus not just on the surface and glare,

But give from your heart, let your spirit lay bare.

For treasures of kindness, mercy, and love,

Are what please the Father, the one up above."

So hear, O listener, this call from the past,

To cleanse from within, let compassion outlast.

For in quiet humility, we find what is true—

The heart that is grateful, pours forth like the dew. Amen.
