The Gospel of Luke Ch 10 Verse 38 thru 42

38 As they continued their journey he entered a village where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him. 39 She had a sister named Mary [who] sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak. 40 Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving? Tell her to help me.” 41 The Lord said to her in reply, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. 42 There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her.”

In Luke 10:38-42, we encounter the familiar story of Mary and Martha, two sisters who exemplify contrasting approaches to hospitality and devotion. While Martha busily attends to the practical details of hosting Jesus in their home, her sister Mary chooses to sit at His feet, absorbing His teachings. Frustrated by the burden of responsibilities, Martha implores Jesus to instruct Mary to help her. However, Jesus gently responds, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”

This emotional exchange is a reminder for all of us in today’s fast-paced world, often filled with multiple demands and distractions. Like Martha, we may find ourselves overwhelmed, tending to countless obligations that pull our focus in different directions. Yet, Jesus invites us to shift our attention from the noise of daily responsibilities to the singular importance of nurturing our relationship with Him.

The “one thing” that Jesus highlights is more than just a call to prioritize spiritual pursuits; it is an encouragement to center our lives around Him. In every aspect of our lives—whether in our work, relationships, or personal challenges—bringing Jesus into the forefront allows us to discern what truly matters. As we lean into Him, we discover peace amid chaos, wisdom amid confusion, and purpose in our actions.

So, dear readers, let us not be anxious about many things, but instead, focus on that which is eternal and transformative—the better part of Jesus. In doing so, we can find fulfillment and joy that transcends the temporal burdens of life. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. Novena Prayers Day Two for Kelly Zorros Diefendorf. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

Ephesians 6:17-20

Chosen The Better Part

In a humble home where hearts entwine,

Two sisters share a sacred space,

Martha hustles, her hands align,

While Mary finds a slower grace.

Martha, busy, her tasks abound,

With every dish and every chore,

Her love expressed in work profound,

Yet in her heart, a restless roar.

“Lord, is it just?” she cries in strife,

“Mary sits there, while I’m alone!

Tell her to join this bustling life,

To help me find the strength I’ve known.”

But Jesus, gentle, with wisdom’s plea,

Says, “Martha, Martha, you’re troubled still,

Many things clamor for your decree,

Yet only one thing feeds the soul’s will.”

For Mary has chosen the better part,

To listen close to truth's embrace,

In quiet moments, she finds the heart,

In stillness woven, God’s gentle grace.

Two paths converge in this sacred space,

One of action, one of intent,

Yet love finds form in every face,

In labor and rest, both gifts are lent.

So let us not in chaos abound,

But find our peace in what is true,

For in every place where love is found,

God whispers softly, always anew. Amen.
