The Gospel of Luke Chapter 1 V- 26 through 38
26 In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And coming to her, he said, “Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you.” 29 But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. 30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, 33 and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” 34 But Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?” 35 And the angel said to her in reply, “The holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore, the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God. 36 And behold, Elizabeth, your relative, has also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren;37 for nothing will be impossible for God.” 38 Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.
The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, celebrated on December 8, is a profound feast in the Catholic Church that honors Mary's conception without original sin. This belief is rooted in Scripture, particularly in Luke 1:26-38, where the Annunciation occurs. In this passage, the angel Gabriel visits Mary to announce that she will conceive Jesus, the Son of God. The dialogue highlights Mary's unique role and her extraordinary grace.
The Church teaches that in order for Mary to be the mother of Jesus, who is fully divine, she was preserved from original sin from the moment of her conception. This dogma, formally proclaimed by Pope Pius IX in 1854, affirms that God's grace was bestowed upon Mary in a singular manner, preparing her to fulfill her role in salvation history. The salutation “full of grace” (Luke 1:28) underscores her special status, suggesting that she is uniquely equipped for her mission.
We Catholics believe in the Immaculate Conception not only as a theological truth but also as a testament to God’s loving plan for humanity. It highlights the dignity of every human life and emphasizes God’s initiative in salvation. Mary’s purity serves as a model for believers, encouraging them to seek holiness and live in accordance with God’s will.
This solemnity invites the faithful to reflect on the mystery of God's grace and the significance of Mary in the Christian narrative. By venerating Mary, Catholics acknowledge her vital role and draw inspiration from her faith and obedience. Ultimately, the belief in the Immaculate Conception deepens the understanding of the Incarnation and reinforces the transformative power of divine grace in human lives. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. **Hail Mary Full of Grace the Lord is with You**
In Nazareth, on a quiet day,
The angel came with words to pray,
“Rejoice, O Mary, favored one,
The Lord is with you; His will be done.”
A humble maiden, full of grace,
With trembling heart, she sought her place.
“What can this mean?” she pondered deep,
As shadows danced, her thoughts would leap.
“Fear not,” the angel spoke so clear,
“For you shall bear the One we hold dear.
Conceived by Spirit, pure and bright,
You’ll cradle Hope, the world’s true Light.”
“Behold your cousin, Elizabeth, too,
In her old age, a miracle anew.
For nothing’s impossible, God’s hand is near,
With trust, dear Mary, cast aside your fear.”
She bowed her head, a heart so meek,
“Let it be done, Lord, as You speak.”
In that moment, faith took flight,
A vessel chosen, blessed with light.
The heavens watched, the world would change,
In her embrace, love would arrange.
From simple home to sacred ground,
In Mary’s heart, salvation found.
O Immaculate, full of grace,
Your yes resounds through time and space.
In every soul, your spirit dwells,
A testament to love that forever compels.
So let us learn from Mary’s trust,
To say “yes” to God, it’s a must.
For in our lives, His will be done,
Through us, like Mary, His light of the Son. Amen.
