The Book of Sirach Ch 45 v- 15 thru 17
15 For Moses ordained (Aaron) and anointed him with the holy oil, In a lasting covenant with him and his family, as permanent as the heavens, That he should serve God in the priesthood and bless the people in his name. 16 He chose him from all the living to sacrifice burnt offerings and choice portions, to burn incense, sweet odor as a memorial, and to atone for the people of Israel. 17 He gave to him the laws, and authority to prescribe and to judge: To teach precepts to the people, and judgments to the Israelites.
In the Book of Exodus, Moses, under the direct command of God, ordained his brother Aaron to serve as the first high priest of the Israelites. This ordination was part of a larger covenant that God established with the people of Israel at Mount Sinai after their exodus from Egypt. Aaron, along with his sons, was set apart for the sacred duty of ministering to the Lord on behalf of the people. As described in Exodus 28 and 29, the ordination process included ceremonial washing, anointing with oil, and the donning of sacred garments designed specifically for the priesthood. These garments were crafted with great care, signifying the honor and responsibility of the priestly role. Aaron and his sons were also presented with various offerings, which they offered to the Lord as part of the ordination ritual, symbolizing their complete dedication to God's service.
Similarly, the process of becoming a priest in the Catholic Church is one of solemn dedication and preparation. The candidate for the priesthood undergoes years of theological study, spiritual formation, and pastoral training, akin to the period of learning and preparation that Moses provided for Aaron and his sons. The journey includes discernment, both personally and by the Church, to ensure that the candidate has a genuine calling to the priestly life. This journey is often marked by moments of prayer, reflection, and service, comparable to the dedication and offerings that were integral to the ordination of Aaron.
The ordination of a Catholic priest involves the sacrament of Holy Orders, which is administered by a bishop. During the ordination ceremony, the candidate vows to lead a life of celibacy, obedience, and prayer, and is anointed with the holy oil of Chrism, paralleling the anointing of Aaron by Moses. The laying on of hands by the bishop and the prayer of consecration invoke the Holy Spirit to bestow upon the new priest the grace and power necessary for his ministry. This mirrors the biblical laying on of hands that Moses performed on Aaron and his sons to confer upon them the authority and blessing needed to serve as priests.
The role of the priest in both the ancient Israelite tradition and the Catholic Church is one of mediatory service between God and His people. Aaron, as high priest, was responsible for making sacrifices and offering prayers on behalf of the Israelites, facilitating their relationship with God. In the Catholic Church, the priest similarly serves as a mediator through the sacraments, particularly the Eucharist, and through his pastoral care, teaching, and guidance for the community he serves as God’s chosen leader. It is a calling that rests in the souls of the devout wanting nothing more than to live God’s Holy Will and share the Salvation of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

Ephesians 6:17-20
05-16-2024 Sirach 45 v-1517
**Aaron was ordained by Moses**
In Sinai's shadow, beneath the blazing sun,
Moses stood firm, as the Lord's will was spun,
With sacred oil, anointing Aaron's head,
Ordained to serve, where holy paths are tread.
The tabernacle shone with God's own light,
Aaron robed in garments pure and white,
Breastplate aglow with gemstones' varied hues,
To bear the tribes of Israel, and their views.
With incense rising, sweet aroma spread,
Before the veil, where angels fear to tread,
Aaron raised hands, blessings to impart,
Channeling grace, from the Almighty's heart.
Brothers in faith, by sacred bond and rite,
Moses and Aaron, in their service unite,
One to command, one to atone and plead,
Together sowing faith's enduring seed. Amen.
