The Gospel of Mark Chapter 10 v- 43 thru 45
43 But it shall not be so among you. Rather, whoever wishes to be great among you will be your servant; 44 whoever wishes to be first among you will be the slave of all. 45 For the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Mark 10:43-45 presents a profound teaching from Jesus that contrasts worldly notions of power and greatness with the values of the Kingdom of God. In this passage, Jesus addresses His disciples, who are grappling with issues of ambition and status. He asserts, “Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all.” This radical redefinition of greatness emphasizes humility and service rather than authority and domination.
Jesus exemplifies this principle with His own life. He did not come to be served but to serve others and ultimately to give His life as a ransom for many. This selfless act underscores the core message of the Gospel: true greatness is found in self-sacrifice and love for others. By modeling servant leadership, Jesus challenges His followers to reconsider their aspirations and motives.
The context of this teaching highlights the disciples' misunderstanding of Jesus' mission. They had been contemplating positions of power within His anticipated kingdom, reflecting a common human desire for recognition and control. Jesus redirects their focus, illustrating that in His Kingdom, the path to true influence is paved with servitude.
This passage invites believers to reflect on their own lives and leadership styles. It serves as a call to embody humility, to prioritize the needs of others, and to adopt a posture of service in all relationships. In a society often driven by competition and self-promotion, Mark 10:43-45 stands as a timeless reminder that the greatest among us are those who choose to lift others up, echoing the heart of Christ’s message and mission. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

**A Ransom for Many**
In the quiet of the evening light,
Gathered close, the disciples' plight,
Dreams of power, of thrones so high,
Yet the Savior hears their unspoken cry.
“Who among you seeks to be great?
Let go of pride, and don’t hesitate,
For greatness lies not in a crown,
But in the heart that seeks to bow down.
To serve is to lead, to give is to gain,
In the humble act, true glory remains.
The first shall be last, the last shall be first,
In the river of love, let your spirit burst.
I came not to reign, but to serve and to save,
In the depths of compassion, the heart learns to brave.
To lay down your life, a ransom for all,
In the shadow of love, we rise, never fall.
So take up your cross, let your service be true,
In the actions of kindness, let your spirit renew.
For the measure of greatness is found in the grace,
Of reaching for others, of embracing their place.
In the tapestry woven, each thread intertwined,
Is a call to remember, to seek and to find,
That the Kingdom of Heaven is built on this ground:
Where the greatest of all is the servant we’ve found.” Amen.
