The 1st Letter to the Corinthians Ch 5 Verse 1 thru 8
1 It is widely reported that there is immorality among you, and immorality of a kind not found even among pagans—a man living with his father’s wife. 2 And you are inflated with pride. Should you not rather have been sorrowful? The one who did this deed should be expelled from your midst. 3 I, for my part, although absent in body but present in spirit, have already, as if present, pronounced judgment on the one who has committed this deed, 4 in the name of [our] Lord Jesus: when you have gathered together and I am with you in spirit with the power of the Lord Jesus, 5 you are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord. 6 Your boasting is not appropriate. Do you not know that a little yeast leavens all the dough? 7 Clear out the old yeast, so that you may become a fresh batch of dough, inasmuch as you are unleavened. For our paschal lamb, Christ, has been sacrificed. 8 Therefore let us celebrate the feast, not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
In 1 Corinthians 5:1-8, the Apostle Paul addresses a troubling issue within the Corinthian church—a case of severe immorality that was not only tolerated but also celebrated by its members. Paul expresses shock that the church could boast about such behavior rather than mourn it. This passage serves as a compelling admonition about the dangers of immorality, illustrating how it can corrupt not only the individual but also the entire community.
Immorality, in this context, refers to actions that are contrary to God's design for human relationships and holiness. Engaging in such behavior can lead to a troublesome state of the soul. When one lives in immorality, pride often replaces humility, and there is a refusal to confront one’s sin. Instead of feeling sorrowful and seeking repentance, some individuals might take pride in their choices, dismissing the profound impact of their actions on their spiritual lives. This misguided self-affirmation creates an illusion of freedom while shackling the soul to sin.
In this state, judgment becomes automatic; it cannot be avoided. Immorality distorts our relationship with God, leading to spiritual decay. It erodes the foundations of community, as Paul reminds the Corinthians that a little leaven leavens the whole lump. Allowing sin to fester unchecked not only endangers the sinner but also infects those around them, creating an atmosphere of complacency towards sin.
Paul urges the Corinthians to remove the immoral person from their midst not out of disdain, but as a means to lead that individual toward repentance and restoration. True love sometimes means confronting difficult truths. In recognizing the seriousness of immorality, we are called to foster a culture of holiness that encourages repentance and brings healing to both the individual and the wider community. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

The Unleavened Bread Of Sincerity And Truth
In Corinth's halls where shadows dwell,
A tale unfolds, a truth to tell,
Of sin unchecked, a weighty sigh,
The lamp of faith begins to die.
A brother caught in shameful plight,
With shameful deeds that taint the night;
A mourning heart, a call to stand,
To cleanse the body, heal the land.
"Remove the leaven," the wise will say,
For purity must find its way.
In the assembly, a sacred space,
To walk in truth and show His grace.
With hearts united, one accord,
To lift each other, bear the sword.
For Christ, our Passover, has eternally come,
In Him, we find our truest home.
So let us feast, with hearts aligned,
In holiness, our souls enshrined.
With joy and love, let us proclaim,
The power of His saving name.
In every heart, may truth abide,
And shine in darkness, as a guide.
For in the love that Christ imparts,
We find redemption in our hearts. Amen.
