The Gospel of Matthew Chapter 8 V- 5 and 10
5 When he entered Capernaum, a centurion approached him and appealed to him, 6 saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, suffering dreadfully.” 7 He said to him, “I will come and cure him.” 8 The centurion said in reply, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof; only say the word and my servant will be healed. 9 For I too am a person subject to authority, with soldiers subject to me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come here,’ and he comes; and to my slave, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” 10 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Amen, I say to you, in no one in Israel have I found such faith.”
Matthew 8:5-11 recounts the emotional encounter between Jesus and the Roman centurion, who seeks healing for his servant. The centurion, recognizing his unworthiness, humbly approaches Jesus, stating, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.” This moment underscores the themes of faith, humility, and the transformative power of Christ’s word.
Within the context of the Eucharist, the Foundational Church emphasizes this scripture as a profound expression of humility and faith. When congregants gather to consume the Eucharist, they acknowledge their own unworthiness, mirroring the centurion's recognition of his limitations. In doing so, they echo his heartfelt plea: “Lord, I am not worthy.” This acknowledgment is not merely a statement of self-deprecation; rather, it is an act of genuine humility that opens the heart to divine grace.
The phrase, “just say the word and my soul will be healed,” encapsulates a deep trust in God’s omnipotence. It affirms the belief that Christ’s presence in the Eucharist is transformative—capable of healing and renewing the soul. By expressing this sentiment before partaking in the sacrament, the faithful invite the healing power of Christ into their lives, acknowledging their dependence on His grace for spiritual nourishment.
In this way, Matthew 8:5-11 serves as a foundational reminder of the attitude with which one should approach the Eucharist. It calls for a humble heart, ready to receive God’s love and mercy, reflecting the centurion’s unwavering faith. Thus, before consuming the Eucharist, the faithful proclaim their belief in Christ’s power to heal, embodying the essence of humility and reverence that defines their spiritual journey. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

Ephesians 6:17-20
12-02-2024 Matthew 8 v0510
**I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof**
In Capernaum, the sun arose,
A centurion with heart composed,
He sought the Healer, pure and bright,
For his servant, lost to night.
“Lord,” he bowed, “I’m not so bold,
To have you come, my home’s too cold,
But just a word from you, I plead,
And in that moment, he’ll be freed.”
With faith profound, he spoke his truth,
A soldier’s heart, yet tender youth,
For he understood the power great,
That lies in words to heal and sate.
Jesus turned, amazed to see,
A faith so strong, a heart so free,
“Not in Israel have I found,
Such trust in Me, so deeply bound.”
The centurion, humble and wise,
Knew that love could pierce the skies,
His plea was simple, pure as light,
A single word to banish night.
So in our hearts, may we proclaim,
As we approach in Jesus' name,
“Though I am unworthy, Lord, I know,
Just say the word, and grace will flow.”
For in the Eucharist, He is near,
A healing presence, calm and clear,
With faith we gather, bow down low,
To receive the love that makes us whole. Amen.
