The Gospel of Luke Chapter 12 Verses 13 thru 21

13 Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to share t he inheritance with me.” 14 He replied to him, “Friend, who appointed me as your judge and arbitrator?” 15 Then he said to the crowd, “Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.” 16 Then he told them a parable. “There was a rich man whose land produced a bountiful harvest. 17 He asked himself, ‘What shall I do, for I do not have space to store my harvest?’ 18 And he said, ‘This is what I shall do: I shall tear down my barns and build larger ones. There I shall store all my grain and other goods 19 and I shall say to myself, “Now as for you, you have so many good things stored up for many years, rest, eat, drink, be merry!”’ 20 But God said to him, ‘You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you; and the things you have prepared, to whom will they belong?’ 21 Thus will it be for the one who stores up treasure for himself but is not rich in what matters to God.”

In Luke 12:13-21, we find a powerful parable that speaks to the heart of greed and materialism. A man approaches Jesus, asking Him to settle a dispute over an inheritance. Instead of focusing on this worldly concern, Jesus tells a story about a rich man whose life became consumed by his wealth. This man amassed great riches, but he was foolish—believing that his possessions could secure his future. That very night, his life was demanded of him, and all his earthly treasures meant nothing.

For you, the "Men in Blue," this passage resonates deeply, reminding us that true wealth is not found in material possessions but in the richness of our relationship with God. Behind bars, it can be all too easy to fall into the trap of envy or greed, wishing for what others possess. But Jesus teaches us that such desires can lead to spiritual bankruptcy.

Instead of being consumed by the pursuit of earthly riches, seek the wealth that truly matters—the wealth of faith, love, and compassion. In your daily lives, consider the legacy you want to leave. A life focused on greed will only lead to destruction; instead, choose to invest in kindness, forgiveness, and understanding.

Each of you has the opportunity to redefine what it means to be rich. Share your wisdom, support one another, and seek the things that enrich your soul. Remember that the true treasure is found in loving relationships with one another and with God. Let go of the chains of greed and embrace the freedom that comes from seeking the wealth that is eternal. Together, let us strive to be rich in what truly matters. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

Ephesians 6:17-20

08-03-2025 Luke 12 v1321

**Not Rich in What Matters to God**

In the crowd, a voice cries out,

“Teacher, help me settle this doubt,

For life’s fair share of wealth is mine,

Yet greed consumes like bitter wine.”

A tale unfolds of fields so grand,

A rich man thrived on fertile land.

With barns so full, he felt secure,

But heart’s true wealth, he could not procure.

He said, “Tomorrow, I shall rest,

Take life and ease—my very best.”

But night befalls; his soul is called,

And all his treasures began to fall.

The riches sought were empty dreams,

Stone and silver, mere passing gleams.

For what is gained can slip away,

As shadows fade from light of day.

So hear this lesson, wise and clear,

Life’s fleeting moments we hold dear.

Riches of heart, not of the hand,

Are treasures meant for every land.

So seek not after worldly gain,

But love and grace, free from the chain.

For wealth that lasts, in God, we find—

A legacy of love, eternally entwined. Amen.
