The Gospel of Matthew Chapter 13 Verses 31 thru 35
31 He proposed another parable to them. “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that a person took and sowed in a field. 32 It is the smallest of all the seeds, yet when full-grown it is the largest of plants. It becomes a large bush, and the ‘birds of the sky come and dwell in its branches.’” 33 He spoke to them another parable. “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed with three measures of wheat flour until the whole batch was leavened.” 34 All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables. He spoke to them only in parables, 35 to fulfill what had been said through the prophet: “I will open my mouth in parables, I will announce what has lain hidden from the foundation [of the world].”
In Matthew 13:31-35, Jesus shares the parable of the mustard seed, illustrating the Kingdom of Heaven's transformative power. He compares this humble seed, the smallest of all, to the vastness of God's Kingdom, which starts small but grows into a mighty tree, providing shelter and refuge for all. This parable not only highlights the Kingdom's exponential growth but also serves as a fulfillment of prophetic scriptures, echoing the hope and promise established long before the foundation of the world.
The mustard seed represents not just faith but also the work of Jesus as the Messiah, who fulfills the prophecies made in the Old Testament. Isaiah 11:1 foreshadows this very concept, declaring that a shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse. Jesus embodies this prophetic vision, showing that God’s plans may appear insignificant at first but will ultimately lead to great glory and expansion. As Jesus told these parables, He was revealing the unfolding of God's redemptive purpose that had been set in motion from the beginning.
Verses 34-35 affirm the importance of parables in revealing truths that have been hidden from the foundation of the world. Jesus speaks in parables to fulfill the prophetic words of the Psalmist, drawing attention to the mysteries of the Kingdom. His teachings resonate with the promises made by God through His prophets, illustrating that Jesus is the culmination of God’s plan for salvation.
In reflecting on these verses, we are reminded that every aspect of Jesus' life and ministry was intricately woven into the prophetic narrative defined by God. As believers, we find comfort in the knowledge that God's purposes are not only grand but also deeply personal, inviting each of us into His Kingdom, no matter how small our beginnings may seem. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

**He Spoke to Them Only in Parables**
In fields where whispered secrets grow,
With tender care, the sower sows.
A mustard seed, the smallest known,
A promise, hidden, gently sown.
From humble roots, a tree will rise,
In every heart, a love supplies.
A haven small, yet boundless space,
As faith expands through time and grace.
The Kingdom blooms, unseen to man,
What seems so small, by God's great plan.
A refuge for the lost and meek,
Transforms the world, His truth we seek.
In parables, He speaks so clear,
To those who have the ears to hear.
The mysteries of heaven unfold,
The ancient tales of love retold.
So trust the seed, though small it be,
Eternity's vast tapestry.
For in its growth, God's will is seen,
In every heart, His kingdom gleaned. Amen.
