The Gospel of Matthew Chapter 12 Verses 38 thru 42
38 Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to him, “Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you.” 39 He said to them in reply, “An evil and unfaithful generation seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it except the sign of Jonah the prophet. 40 Just as Jonah was in the belly of the whale three days and three nights, so will the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights. 41 At the judgment, the men of Nineveh will arise with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and there is something greater than Jonah here. 42 At the judgment the queen of the south will arise with this generation and condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and there is something greater than Solomon here.
In Matthew 12:38-42, we witness a pivotal moment where Jesus addresses the demand for a sign from the Pharisees and scribes, who sought to test Him. They desired reassurance of His authority through miraculous evidence, yet Jesus proclaimed that no sign would be given to them except the sign of Jonah. Just as Jonah was three days in the belly of the whale, so too would the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
This profound declaration points to the greater truth that Jesus embodies—something far transcendent than any prophet before Him. Jonah was a messenger of repentance; however, Christ is the fulfillment of prophecy and the very essence of God’s message to humanity. He is greater than Solomon, the wise king who governed with profound insight, yet still fell short of establishing lasting peace. Christ brings eternal peace and reconciliation through His sacrifice.
The passage reveals the stark reality of unbelief; though the people witnessed miracles and heard His teachings, they failed to recognize the greater truth before them: Jesus is the fulfillment of all that the prophets foretold. The men of Nineveh, who repented at Jonah’s preaching, shall rise in judgment because they grasped a lesser truth, while those witnessing Christ Himself dismissed Him.
If only we would embrace the significance of Jesus as not just another prophet, but as the Son of God, our hearts could be transformed. He calls us to belief—a belief that leads to repentance, hope, and eternal life. Let us open our eyes to the greater miracle of Christ among us. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

**Something Greater Than Solomon Here**
In days of old, the seekers came,
With hardened hearts and minds aflame,
“Show us a sign!” they cried in pain,
Yet in their doubt, they sought to gain.
A prophet’s tale, they wished to see,
But Jonah’s truth could not set free,
For greater stood before their eyes,
The One who heals, the One who cries.
“Like Jonah’s three days in the deep,
So shall I rest; but do not sleep,”
He spoke of death, the grave’s cold hold,
A story of love, yet to unfold.
The queen of Sheba, wise and grand,
Came seeking truth from distant land,
But here within you stands the best,
God’s very Word, our hearts’ true rest.
Oh, let us hear, let faith arise,
In humble hearts, may doubt despise,
For greater still, the truth we find,
In Christ alone, our Savior kind. Amen.
