The Gospel of Luke Chapter 12 Verse 54 thru 59

54 He also said to the crowds, “When you see [a] cloud rising in the west you say immediately that it is going to rain—and so it does; 55 and when you notice that the wind is blowing from the south you say that it is going to be hot—and so it is. 56 You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky; why do you not know how to interpret the present time? 57 “Why do you not judge for yourselves what is right? 58 If you are to go with your opponent before a magistrate, make an effort to settle the matter on the way; otherwise your opponent will turn you over to the judge, and the judge hand you over to the constable, and the constable throw you into prison. 59 I say to you, you will not be released until you have paid the last penny.”

In Luke 12:54-59, Jesus addresses the crowd, emphasizing the importance of discernment and self-evaluation. He says, “When you see a cloud rising in the west, you immediately say, ‘It’s going to rain,’ and it does. And when the south wind blows, you say, ‘It’s going to be hot,’ and it is.” Here, Jesus challenges the people to recognize the signs of the times and apply that wisdom to their lives. He draws a parallel between their ability to predict the weather and their failure to discern spiritual truths.

The passage serves as a poignant reminder to avoid hypocrisy. Jesus rebukes the people for their inability to judge the signs around them, pointing out that they are quick to determine atmospheric changes but fail to understand the significance of His teachings. This lack of self-awareness can be seen as a form of hypocrisy—professing understanding while neglecting to apply it to their own lives. It’s a call to examine our own hearts and actions, to ensure that our faith aligns with our behaviors.

As we reflect on these verses, we are encouraged to judge for ourselves what is right, rather than relying solely on the perceptions of others. This involves a willingness to confront uncomfortable truths about ourselves. Are we truly living out our faith, or are we merely going through the motions? We are urged to align our thoughts and actions with the teachings of Christ, to seek genuine understanding, and to bear witness to our faith authentically.

In an age where opinions abound, and instant judgments are the norm, let us cultivate the wisdom to discern rightly. May we not fall into the trap of hypocrisy, but instead embrace the call to be true to ourselves and to God. Ultimately, when we judge rightly, we reflect the love and truth of Christ to the world around us. Amen.

Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. **You Hypocrites**

In skies of azure, clouds convene,

The signs of change, the truth unseen,

A voice of wisdom, piercing clear,

"Discern the time, for storms draw near."

You see the heavens, red at night,

A warning whispered, bold yet slight.

Yet when it comes to matters dire,

You turn away, with hearts of fire.

The world around you, raging fast,

You miss the lessons of the past.

“Aren’t you afraid,” the whispers say,

“To miss the dawn, to lose your way?”

Resolve your matters, make amends,

For time is short, and fate descends.

A debt you owe, don’t let it grow,

For justice waits; the clock will show.

So take this message, heed the call,

Awake, arise, before you fall.

Let wisdom guide you, heart defend,

In every choice, let love transcend. Amen.
