The Gospel of John Chapter 10 Verse 30 thru 42
30 “The Father and I are one.” 31 The Jews again picked up rocks to stone him. 32 Jesus answered them, “I have shown you many good works from my Father. For which of these are you trying to stone me?” 33 The Jews answered him, “We are not stoning you for a good work but for blasphemy. You, a man, are making yourself God.”34 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods”’? 35 If it calls them gods to whom the word of God came, and scripture cannot be set aside, 36 can you say that the one whom the Father has consecrated and sent into the world blasphemes because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’? 37 If I do not perform my Father’s works, do not believe me; 38 but if I perform them, even if you do not believe me, believe the works, so that you may realize [and understand] that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.” 39 [Then] they tried again to arrest him; but he escaped from their power. 40 He went back across the Jordan to the place where John first baptized, and there he remained. 41 Many came to him and said, “John performed no sign, but everything John said about this man was true.”42 And many there began to believe in him.
In John 10:30-42, the apostle John presents a profound and pivotal moment in the ministry of Jesus, emphasizing the relationship between Christ and His followers, as well as His divine nature. In verse 30, Jesus declares, “I and the Father are one,” a statement that asserts His unity with God the Father. This assertion is crucial, as it reinforces the belief in Jesus’ divinity and His role in the Godhead, thus affirming the Christian doctrine of the Trinity. The Father. The Son. The Holy Ghost.
The immediate reaction from the Jewish leaders is one of hostility; they interpret Jesus' words as blasphemy. They attempt to stone Him for claiming equality with God, perceiving His statement as a direct threat to their religious authority and understanding of God. Jesus responds by referring to His works, urging the leaders to consider the miracles He has performed as evidence of His divine mission. This interaction illustrates the broader theme of belief versus unbelief—a contrast visible throughout the Gospel of John.
In verses 34-36, Jesus cites scripture, asserting that if the Scriptures refer to humans as “gods,” then His claim to be the Son of God is not blasphemous. This argument highlights His identity and purpose as the one sent by the Father, equipped with divine authority. Ultimately, the passage concludes with a call for belief based on His works and identity, inviting those present to recognize Him as the Messiah.
Verses 40-42 depict a shift in location, with Jesus in the region beyond the Jordan, where many respond positively to His message. They acknowledge John the Baptist's previous testimony about Jesus and believe in Him, further emphasizing the divided responses to Jesus' identity and the transformative power of His ministry. This passage encapsulates the core of Christian belief and the challenge of accepting Jesus as the incarnate Word of God. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. Ephesians 6:17-20
03-27-2026 John 10 v3042
**The Father And I Are One**
In the fold where the shepherd stands so near,
Words of promise, whispers that we hear.
"Together we are, one heart, one soul,"
In John’s grand tale, profound and whole.
The Son and the Father, a bond divine,
In unity they walk, their purpose align.
"I and the Father are one," He proclaims,
With love so fierce, igniting the flames.
The leaders mumble, their hearts filled with doubt,
“Blasphemy!” they shout, their anger a spout.
Yet miracles weave through the thronging crowd,
His works testify, His truth is loud.
“Which of my deeds bears witness untrue?”
In every healed heart, the light breaks through.
With sheep by His side, on paths ever right,
He guides through the darkness, a beacon of light.
In the stony cold, where shadows may loom,
His voice calls to souls, transforming the gloom.
“Fear not, for I’m here, the Keeper of peace,
In the grasp of my love, all burdens release.”
He speaks of the flock, each cherished and known,
A guardian strong, no one stands alone.
In the heart of the storm, with faith as our guide,
We’ll follow His lead; in Him we confide. Amen.
