The Letter to the Hebrews Chapter 1 V- 1 through 14

1 In times past, God spoke in partial and various ways to our ancestors through the prophets; 2 in these last days, he spoke to us through a son, whom he made heir of all things and through whom he created the universe, 3 who is the refulgence of his glory, the very imprint of his being, and who sustains all things by his mighty word. When he had accomplished purification from sins, he took his seat at the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4 as far superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs. 5For to which of the angels did God ever say: “You are my son; this day I have begotten you”? Or again: “I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me”? 6 And again, when he leads the first-born into the world, he says: “Let all the angels of God worship him.” 7 Of the angels he says: “He makes his angels winds and his ministers a fiery flame”; 8 but of the Son: “Your throne, O God, stands forever and ever; and a righteous scepter is the scepter of your kingdom. 9 You loved justice and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, anointed you with the oil of gladness above your companions”; 10 and: “At the beginning, O Lord, you established the earth, and the heavens are the works of your hands. 11 They will perish, but you remain; and they will all grow old like a garment. 12 You will roll them up like a cloak, and like a garment they will be changed. But you are the same, and your years will have no end.” 13 But to which of the angels has he ever said, “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool”? 14 Are they not all ministering spirits sent to serve, for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation?

Hebrews 1:1-14 serves as a profound introduction to the letter, emphasizing the supremacy of Christ and His unique role in God's redemptive plan. The passage begins by contrasting God's communication methods throughout history. In the past, God spoke through the prophets, conveying His will and purpose in fragments and various ways. However, in these last days, God has spoken definitively through His Son, Jesus Christ. This transition highlights the culmination of God's revelation in Christ, who embodies the fullness of divine truth.

The text underscores the divine nature of Jesus, describing Him as the "radiance of God's glory" and the "exact representation of His being." These phrases affirm Christ's preeminence and His essential unity with God the Father. Furthermore, the passage notes that through Jesus, God created the universe, establishing His authority not only in spiritual matters but over all of creation.

Verses 3-4 elaborate on Christ’s exalted status after He made purification for sins, emphasizing His ascension and position at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. This exaltation signifies His superiority over the angels, which the author of Hebrews elaborates upon in the following verses. The subsequent quotations from the Old Testament serve to illustrate Christ’s unique sonship and authority. The angels, while powerful, are ultimately servants, whereas Jesus is recognized as the Son of God.

Hebrews 1:1-14 establishes a foundational understanding of Christ's divine identity and His pivotal role in salvation history. The passage invites readers to reflect on the significance of Christ's superiority over both the prophets and angels, reinforcing the central theme of the epistle: that Jesus is the ultimate revelation of God and the fulfillment of His promises. Amen.

At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

Ephesians 6:17-20

01-13-2025 Hebrews 1 v0114

**Your Throne O God Stands Forever and Ever**

In times of old, God’s voice was heard,

Through prophets’ lips, His sacred word,

In shadows cast, the truth was dim,

Yet hope remained, His light would begin.

But now in fullness, His Son has come,

The radiance bright, the promised One,

The exact image of His grace,

In Christ, we see the Father’s face.

Through Him the worlds were deftly made,

In endless love, our debts were paid,

He purifies with arms outstretched,

In Him, our hearts are truly fetched.

Exalted high, at God’s right hand,

Above all angels, He will stand,

With voices raised, we sing His praise,

Our Savior King, our hope always.

So let us heed this truth profound,

In Christ alone, our peace is found,

For in these days, He speaks anew,

The living Word, forever true. Amen.
