Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
The Gospel of Luke Chapter 1 Verses 45 thru 56
45 Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.” 46 And Mary said: “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; 47 my spirit rejoices in God my savior. 48 For he has looked upon his handmaid’s lowliness; behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed. 49 The Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name. 50 His mercy is from age to age to those who fear him. 51 He has shown might with his arm, dispersed the arrogant of mind and heart. 52 He has thrown down the rulers from their thrones but lifted up the lowly. 53 The hungry he has filled with good things; the rich he has sent away empty. 54 He has helped Israel his servant, remembering his mercy, 55 according to his promise to our fathers, to Abraham and to his descendants forever.” 56 Mary remained with her about three months and then returned to her home.
Luke 1:45-56 recounts the visit of Mary to her cousin Elizabeth, during which Elizabeth praises Mary for her faith and the miraculous pregnancy she is experiencing. In verse 45, Elizabeth declares, "Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her," acknowledging Mary’s acceptance of God's will. This passage beautifully emphasizes Mary's deep faith and trust in God, qualities that define her role as the mother of Jesus and as a model of discipleship for all believers.
The Catholic Church honors the Blessed Virgin Mary in various ways, culminating in the Solemnity of the Assumption, celebrated on August 15 each year. This day is a holy day of obligation, meaning Catholics are required to attend Mass, as it commemorates the belief that Mary was taken up body and soul into heaven at the end of her earthly life. This doctrine underscores the special role Mary holds in salvation history, as she was preserved from original sin and served as the vessel for the Incarnation of Christ.
The Assumption is not just a celebration of Mary's physical elevation to heaven but also signifies her unique relationship with God and the ultimate hope of the resurrection that awaits all believers. The Church teaches that Mary's Assumption foreshadows the destiny of the faithful, who are called to eternal life. By making this solemnity a day of obligation, the Church invites the faithful to reflect on the virtues of Mary, her acceptance of God's transformative plan, and the promise of resurrection and eternal life extended to all. Thus, the celebration serves as a powerful reminder of faith, hope, and the call to follow Mary's example in our own lives. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

**The Mighty One Has Done Great Things For Me**
In haste she went, a journey bold,
To greet her kin, a story told.
With joy, Elizabeth did proclaim,
"Blessed are you, dear Mary’s name."
"Believed you have, in God's decree,
A promise made, now here to see.
You bear the Child, the world’s delight,
The dawn of hope, the truer light."
Within her womb, the Holy dwells,
In whispered prayers, the silence swells.
A song of praise begins to flow,
Two hearts in joy, their spirits glow.
"My soul proclaims," Mary does sing,
Of wondrous things her Savior brings.
"His mercy vast, His love profound,
In lowly hearts, His grace is found."
The proud brought low, the humble raised,
In every life, His truth is praised.
For those who hunger, He will fill,
God’s promises, forever will.
So let us ponder, as we pray,
In Mary’s heart, may we display,
A faith that bold, a spirit free,
To trust in love, eternally. Amen.
