The Book of Ephesians 4 v- One thru Six

38 As they continued their journey he entered a village where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him. 39 She had a sister named Mary [who] sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak. 40 Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving? Tell her to help me.”41 The Lord said to her in reply, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. 42 There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her.”

In the Gospel of Luke, chapter 10, verses 38-42, we encounter an emotional story that invites us to reflect deeply on our priorities and spiritual focus. As Jesus visits the home of Martha and Mary, Martha is preoccupied with the tasks of hospitality, while Mary chooses to sit at Jesus' feet, absorbing His teachings. Martha, feeling overwhelmed and perhaps a bit resentful, asks Jesus to encourage Mary to help her. Jesus lovingly responds, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her."

This narrative echoes loudly in the context of the Eucharist. Just as Mary recognized the profound importance of being present with Jesus, we too are called to recognize Him in the Eucharist. The Eucharist is not merely a ritual or a symbol; it is the real presence of Christ, offering us the "better part" in the midst of our busy, often distracted lives.

When we approach the Eucharist, we are invited to leave behind our anxieties and worldly concerns, much like Mary left the household tasks to be with Jesus. In the Eucharist, Jesus is truly present, offering Himself to us in the most intimate and transformative way. It is a moment to pause, to listen, and to receive the grace that flows abundantly from Him.

Choosing the "better part" means prioritizing our relationship with Christ above all else. It means recognizing that in the Eucharist, we encounter the living God who nourishes our souls and strengthens us for the journey ahead. Just as Mary's choice was affirmed by Jesus, our choice to seek Him in the Eucharist will not be taken away from us. It is a timeless and eternal gift, inviting us into a deeper communion with our Savior.

In the hustle and bustle of life, let us strive to be like Mary, sitting at the feet of Jesus, recognizing Him in the breaking of the bread, and choosing the better part that leads to everlasting peace and joy. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

Ephesians 6:17-20

07-29-2024 Luke 10 V-3842

**Better Part Chosen**

In Bethany's embrace, two sisters stand,

A tale unfolds in a humble land.

Martha, bustling, with tasks to tend,

Mary, at Jesus' feet, time to spend.

Martha, weary, her brow in a furrow,

"Lord, don't you care?" she sought to borrow.

"Bid my sister to rise and assist,

In the chores that persist, she must enlist."

Jesus, with love, a gentle reply,

"Martha, dear Martha, why worry, why sigh?

So many things pull at your heart,

Yet only one needful, the better part."

Mary has chosen, in quiet repose,

To drink in the wisdom that only grows.

In the stillness, at the Master's feet,

She finds the treasure, profound and sweet.

Not in the clatter, nor in the rush,

But in the presence, in the sacred hush.

For in the balance of duty and grace,

We find our peace in the holy place.

So let us remember, in life's busy throng,

To pause, to listen, where we truly belong.

For in the moments of stillness and care,

We meet our Savior, who is always there. Amen.
