The Gospel of Matthew Chapter 18 Verse One thru Five
1 At that time the disciples approached Jesus and said, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2 He called a child over, placed it in their midst, 3 and said, “Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me.
In Matthew 18:1-5, we witness a profound teaching about humility and the nature of the Kingdom of Heaven. The disciples, seeking greatness, ask Jesus who among them is the greatest. In response, Jesus takes a child and places them among the disciples, declaring that unless they become like little children, they will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven. This imagery is powerful and transformative to one’s life and your eternal happiness..
Children embody a sense of wonder, innocence, and dependence that is often lost in adulthood. They possess a genuine faith that trusts without reservation and a humility that is untainted by pride or self-importance. Jesus highlights that true greatness in the eyes of God comes from embracing these childlike qualities. In a world that often values power, status, and self-sufficiency, Jesus redirects our focus to the simplicity of faith and the importance of humility.
Moreover, Jesus emphasizes that welcoming a child in His name is akin to welcoming Him. This gesture invites us to recognize the value and worth of every individual, especially the vulnerable and the meek. It serves as a reminder that the Kingdom of Heaven is accessible to all who are willing to set aside their ego and embrace a heart of trust and humility.
In embracing this childlike humility, we acknowledge that our salvation is not earned through accomplishments, but is a gracious gift from God. His promise of eternal life is a treasure that cannot be bought or achieved; it is freely given to those who come with open hearts. Let us strive to cultivate this childlike spirit within us, nurturing a deep reliance on God's grace. True humility is the pathway to heaven, and in this simplicity, we find the richness of God’s love. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

**Whoever Humbles Himself Like This Child**
In humble hearts, the question floats,
"Who is the greatest?" they implore,
Yet in the stillness, wisdom quotes,
A child stands forth, the key to more.
"Unless you change and become like these,
With innocence and trust so pure,
In Heaven’s gates, it’s they who seize,
The gift of grace, forever sure."
For in the small, the meek, the mild,
A strength that echoes through the heavens bright,
To welcome all, each precious child,
To find in love, our truest light.
So let us cast our pride aside,
Embrace the heart of one so small,
In childlike faith, we’ll find our guide,
For greatness blooms when we humbly call. Amen.
