The Gospel of Matthew Chapter 16 Verses 13 thru 19

13 When Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” 14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter said in reply, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus said to him in reply, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. 18 And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

In Matthew 16:13-19, a pivotal moment in the New Testament unfolds when Jesus poses a crucial question to His disciples: "Who do you say I am?" Simon Peter boldly declares, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God." Jesus responds, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Heavenly Father.” This statement highlights two essential themes: divine revelation and the formation of the Church.

When Jesus refers to Peter's understanding as a revelation from the Heavenly Father, He emphasizes that true faith and insight come not from human intellect or societal influences but from divine inspiration. This distinction underscores the spiritual nature of Peter's confession. It illustrates that recognizing Jesus' true identity is a gift from God, enabling believers to see beyond superficial definitions of Jesus.

Following this declaration, Jesus establishes Peter as the rock upon which He will build His Church, saying, “On this rock, I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.” This moment is foundational for Christianity, particularly for the Catholic Church, as it signifies the institution of a stable, authoritative community. Peter, considered the first Pope, embodies the link between apostolic tradition and the living Church, maintaining the continuity of faith through the ages.

In essence, Matthew 16:13-19 encapsulates the establishment of a faith that transcends time and societal changes, rooted in the divine truth revealed through Jesus Christ. This passage not only marks the inception of the Church, particularly the Catholic Church, but also invites believers to recognize and respond to the divine truths revealed in their lives. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

Ephesians 6:17-20

08-07-2025 Matthew 16 v1319

**You Are the Messiah the Son of the Living God**

In land of dust, where shadows play,

The Teacher asked, in light of day,

“Who are they saying I might be?”

The whispers roamed, like waves at sea.

But boldest Peter stood with grace,

“In you, the Christ, we find our place,

The Son of God, Messiah true,”

In this, the Father’s light Shone through.

“Blessed are you, Simon, son of man,

Revealed to you by Heaven's plan,

Not flesh, nor blood, could show this sight,

But the Spirit's whisper, pure and bright.”

Upon this rock, the Church shall stand,

A beacon bright in every land,

The gates of hell shall not prevail,

In faith, we rise; we cannot fail.

Through ages past and trials near,

In unity, we hold what's dear.

From Peter’s hands, the keys He gave,

A sacred trust, a path to God of how to behave.

So let us walk in faith, abide,

In love and truth, the Savior's guide.

For on this rock, we build and thrive,

In Christ alone, the Church is Eternally alive. Amen.
