The Gospel of Mark Chapter 4 Verse One thru Nine

1 On another occasion he began to teach by the sea. A very large crowd gathered around him so that he got into a boat on the sea and sat down. And the whole crowd was beside the sea on land. 2 And he taught them at length in parables, and in the course of his instruction he said to them, 3 “Hear this! A sower went out to sow. 4 And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Other seed fell on rocky ground where it had little soil. It sprang up at once because the soil was not deep. 6 And when the sun rose, it was scorched and it withered for lack of roots. 7 Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it and it produced no grain. 8 And some seed fell on rich soil and produced fruit. It came up and grew and yielded thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold.” 9 He added, “Whoever has ears to hear ought to hear.”

In Mark 4:1-9, Jesus tells the Parable of the Sower, a profound teaching that uses agricultural imagery to convey spiritual truths. In this parable, a sower scatters seeds across various types of soil: the path, rocky ground, thorny soil, and good soil. Each soil type represents different responses to the Word of God. The seeds symbolize the Word, which has the potential to flourish in receptive hearts but may falter in unprepared ones.

The concluding phrase, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear,” emphasizes the importance of active listening and understanding. Jesus often uses this phrase to alert His audience that the message requires more than just auditory reception; it demands contemplation and openness of heart. The effectiveness of the seed—God’s message—depends not only on its delivery but also on the soil, symbolizing the listener’s readiness to accept and nurture its growth.

This call to attentive listening serves multiple purposes. First, it challenges listeners to engage deeply with the parable and consider their spiritual state. Are they like the hardened path, allowing distractions to diminish their understanding? Are they the rocky ground, lacking the depth of commitment? Or are they the thorny soil, allowing life's worries to choke their spiritual growth? Jesus invites each person to examine their condition and seek transformation.

Moreover, this concluding remark underscores the notion that spiritual insight is a gift, one that requires a willing heart. Those who truly desire to understand God’s word will seek His wisdom earnestly. Thus, the phrase acts as both an invitation and a challenge, encouraging followers to listen attentively and respond proactively to the divine message. In essence, it is a reminder of the profound connection between hearing, understanding, and the subsequent action that follows acceptance of God’s truth. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

Ephesians 6:17-20

01-28-2026 Mark 4 v0109

**Whoever Has Ears Ought To Hear**

Upon the shore where waters gleam,

A crowd gathered, a wandering dream,

The Teacher spoke with parables clear,

A tale of sowing for all to hear.

He cast the seed, a whispering sound,

In fields of hearts, where truth is found.

Upon the path, the first seeds lay,

But merchants came, and they would sway,

The birds of air in quick descent,

Devoured hope, their feast well-meant.

Yet still the sower scattered wide,

A message of grace, not to divide.

In stony ground, the roots were weak,

A joyful sprout, too frail to seek,

For trials rose like blazing sun,

With shallow soil, the race was run.

Yet in this tale, a truth divine:

Not all is lost; love’s light will shine.

Thorns choked the growth where weeds entwined,

Distracting hearts, the lost we find.

With cares of life, their voices loud,

The treasure drowned 'neath worry's shroud.

But still the seed, it holds the key,

To rise anew, to set hearts free.

Yet some fell on soil, rich and deep,

No fear of loss, for dreams to keep.

They flourished bright, a bounteous yield,

A harvest gathered from the field.

“Whoever has ears, let them hear,”

The sower calls, our hearts to steer. Amen.
