The Gospel of Luke Chapter 9 Verse 57 thru 62
57 As they were proceeding on their journey someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” 58 Jesus answered him, “Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head.”59 And to another he said, “Follow me.” But he replied, “[Lord,] let me go first and bury my father.” 60 But he answered him, “Let the dead bury their dead. But you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” 61 And another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but first let me say farewell to my family at home.” 62 [To him] Jesus said, “No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what was left behind is fit for the kingdom of God.”
In Luke 9:57-62, we encounter powerful teachings from Jesus about the demands of discipleship. As various individuals approach Him with grand intentions of following, Jesus makes it abundantly clear that following Him requires a radical commitment. One man expresses his desire to follow Jesus wherever He goes, yet Jesus responds that earthly comforts will not be afforded to those who choose this path: "Foxes have dens, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head." This stark reminder urges those who seek to follow Him to relinquish attachments to worldly security and ease.
Jesus then encounters another who wishes to first bury his father. The Lord’s reply, "Let the dead bury their own dead," emphasizes the urgency of the call to discipleship, underscoring that the Kingdom of God demands our full attention and immediate response. Similarly, when another man expresses his desire to say farewell to his family, Jesus warns that anyone who looks back is unfit for the Kingdom. This pivotal moment serves as a powerful teaching: we cannot dwell in the shadows of our past, holding on to what once was, if we are to embrace the transformative journey of faith.
To be fit for the Kingdom of God, we must reject any hindrances of nostalgia or regret that anchor us to what is familiar. Instead, as disciples, we are invited to bask in the glory of Christ in each present moment, allowing His light to guide us toward eternal life. Embracing this call leads us to a deeper understanding of true freedom—liberated from the chains of yesterday and stepping boldly into the promise of tomorrow. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

**Proclaim the Kingdom of God**
Upon the road, with hearts ablaze,
They came to follow, seeking grace,
But Jesus spoke of true sacrifice,
Of foxes’ dens and stones pillow to suffice.
“Let the dead bury their own,” He said,
Urgency He shared without dread,
The ties that bind, they must be loosed,
For in the Kingdom, none will roost.
When one turned back to say goodbye,
“To plow the field, your gaze must die,
For looking back dims visions clear,
Only by faith will you find the way without fear.”
So press on, souls, with eyes set true,
Embrace the present, behold what’s due,
In the glory of Christ, find your call,
And step into Life, forever to enthrall. Amen.
