The Gospel of Luke Chapter 9 Verse 51 thru 56
51 When the days for his being taken up were fulfilled, he resolutely determined to journey to Jerusalem, 52 and he sent messengers ahead of him. On the way they entered a Samaritan village to prepare for his reception there, 53 but they would not welcome him because the destination of his journey was Jerusalem. 54 When the disciples James and John saw this they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call down fire from heaven to consume them?” 55 Jesus turned and rebuked them, 56 and they journeyed to another village.
In Luke 9:51-56, we encounter an emotional moment in Jesus’ ministry as He sets His face toward Jerusalem, resolutely moving toward His impending sacrifice. In this passage, Jesus and His disciples seek hospitality in a Samaritan village. However, the villagers reject Jesus due to the animosity that existed between Jews and Samaritans. In response, James and John, two of Jesus' disciples, propose calling down fire from heaven to consume the town.
Jesus' reply is telling: "You do not know what manner of spirit you are of; for the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them" (Luke 9:55-56,). This moment highlights the heart of God—a heart that yearns for repentance and reconciliation rather than destruction. Jesus' mission is one of salvation, inviting the unsaved to turn from their ways and embrace the promise of eternal life.
This passage serves as a powerful reminder of God's character. He is not a vengeful deity but a loving Father who desires every individual to find redemption. The rejection of Jesus by the Samaritans is a reflection of the human condition: we often miss recognizing the divine invitation extended to us. God grants us the gift of free will, allowing us to choose our paths.
Instead of judgment, He offers grace, demonstrating that the power of change lies within us. It’s a call to reflect on how we respond to God’s offers in our own lives. Are we willing to accept His loving invitation to transformation? By opening our hearts and minds, we can discover the profound life that He promises—a life that is eternal and full of hope. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

**Jesus Turned and Rebuked Them**
With steadfast heart, He faced the road,
To Jerusalem, where love wasn’t bestowed,
The weight of sin upon His frame,
For every heart, He felt the same.
In the Samaritan village, hopes turned cold,
With scornful glances, their hearts were bold.
"Shall we call fire to cleanse this shame?"
But grace led Jesus; His mission, not blame.
"You know not the spirit of wrath you bear,
My purpose is life, compassion laid bare."
For the lost and the broken, He came to save,
To offer them mercy, His blood for the brave.
So let us remember, as we walk this day,
God's heart yearns gently; He shows us the way,
No desire to destroy, but to teach us to see,
In the light of His love, we’re forever set free. Amen.
