The Gospel of Luke Chapter 9 Verse 18 thru 22

18 Once when Jesus was praying in solitude, and the disciples were with him, he asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?” 19 They said in reply, “John the Baptist; others, Elijah; still others, ‘One of the ancient prophets has arisen.’” 20 Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter said in reply, “The Messiah of God.” 21 He rebuked them and directed them not to tell this to anyone.22 He said, “The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised.”

In Luke 9:18-22, we find a pivotal moment in the Gospel narrative where Jesus poses a profound question to His disciples: "Who do the crowds say that I am?" The responses range from John the Baptist to Elijah, revealing the varied perceptions of Jesus among the people. However, the crux of the passage comes when Jesus directly asks His disciples, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter responds boldly, declaring, "The Messiah of God." This acknowledgment is not just a recognition of Jesus' messianic identity but a declaration of faith that has implications for the entire world.

Following Peter's confession, Jesus instructs His disciples to tell no one about His identity, foreshadowing the suffering and rejection He must face. He explains that the Son of Man must endure great hardships, be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, ultimately rising on the third day. This stark revelation emphasizes the sacrificial nature of Jesus' mission and challenges our understanding of the Messiah. Unlike earthly kings who wield power and authority, Jesus redefines what it means to be the Christ through humility and suffering.

As we reflect on this passage, we are confronted with a personal inquiry that transcends time: Who do you think Jesus truly is—not was, but is? This question is crucial, as it shapes our beliefs, our actions, and our relationship with the divine. The answer has the power to transform lives, as recognizing Jesus for who He truly is—Lord, Savior, and Messiah—opens the door to a deeper faith and commitment. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

Ephesians 6:17-20

09-26-2025 Luke 9 v1822

**Who Do You Say That I Am**

In the hush of scattered voices, they spoke,

“Some say John, some call Him divine,”

Yet Peter stood firm, with truth that awoke,

“The Messiah of God,” in a moment sublime.

Yet Jesus, with wisdom, bid silence that day,

For His path laid with sorrow, not glory nor throne,

“Rejection awaits; I must go on this way,

To suffer and die, so the truth may be known.”

The Son of Man destined for trials untold,

A plan etched in love, through anguish and night,

For in pain’s shadow, a story unfolds,

Of hope and redemption, in darkest of light.

So now we are called, to ponder anew,

Who is Jesus, to us, today and always?

Not just a figure from history’s view,

But alive as our Savior, guiding our ways. Amen.
