The Gospel of Luke Chapter 4 Verse 24 thru 30
24 And he said, “Amen, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own native place. 25 Indeed, I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah when the sky was closed for three and a half years and a severe famine spread over the entire land. 26 It was to none of these that Elijah was sent, but only to a widow in Zarephath in the land of Sidon.27 Again, there were many lepers in Israel during the time of Elisha the prophet; yet not one of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian.” 28 When the people in the synagogue heard this, they were all filled with fury. 29 They rose up, drove him out of the town, and led him to the brow of the hill on which their town had been built, to hurl him down headlong. 30 But he passed through the midst of them and went away.
In Luke 4:24-30, we find Jesus returning to His hometown of Nazareth, where He reads from the prophecy of Isaiah in the synagogue. He announces the arrival of a time of healing, liberation, and favor, implying that He is the fulfillment of these prophecies. Initially, the townspeople react with admiration, marveling at His gracious words. However, their admiration quickly turns to offense when Jesus anticipates their skepticism. He rebukes them, saying, “No prophet is accepted in his hometown” (Luke 4:24).
The townspeople of Nazareth were deeply upset with Jesus for several reasons. First, they struggled with the notion that someone they knew as a local carpenter’s son could embody the prophetic and messianic qualities He proclaimed. Their familiarity with His humble beginnings blinded them to His divine authority. Secondly, Jesus’ subsequent references to the widows in Zarephath and Naaman the Syrian, who received God's blessings while many in Israel did not, suggested that God's favor was not exclusive to the Jews. This implicit message of inclusivity threatened their cultural and religious identity, igniting feelings of jealousy and exclusion.
As Jesus highlights God's willingness to extend grace beyond the boundaries traditionally set by the Jewish people, the townspeople felt a mix of anger and betrayal. Their reaction culminates in an attempted violent response, as they drive Him out of town and attempt to throw Him off a cliff. This incident illustrates the challenges faced by those who challenge entrenched beliefs and the resistance often encountered when familiar faces deliver unexpected truths. Ultimately, this episode underscores the difficulty of accepting God’s expansive love and the radical call to rethink our understanding of inclusion and acceptance. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

Ephesians 6:17-20

**They Were All Filled With Fury**
In the heart of Nazareth, where memories dwell,
A prophet speaks truth, and the crowd knows it well.
“Who honors a healer in his own hometown?
Familiar faces frown, and harsh words come down.
With voices like thunder, they rise in disdain,
“We’ve heard of your wonders, but who do you claim?
Isn’t this Joseph’s son? What’s he got to bring?
We want signs and marvels, not words from a king.”
Yet Jesus declares, with a calm, steady gaze,
“A prophet is honored when far from his days.
Remember Elijah, the widow he fed,
To a foreigner’s house when my people were led.
And Naaman, the leper, healed there by faith,
In lands not our own, such grace finds its place.”
But their hearts hardened, rejection took flight,
In fury they rose, blinded by their spite.
They sought to expel him, their anger ablaze,
To the edge of the cliff, in a dark, frenzied haze.
But he walked through their midst, unshaken, serene,
The shepherd among wolves, their hearts still unseen.
Oh, Nazareth, cradle of love turned to scorn,
In the face of his wisdom, the lost will be mourned.
For those who deny what the heart dares to share,
Will find truth in the silence, and judgment laid bare.
So let us remember, through whispers and cries,
The voices of prophets, the truth that defies.
In courage we gather, both near and afar,
To listen, to learn, and to cherish the Eternal Star. Amen.
