The Gospel of Luke Chapter 21 Verse 5 thru 19
5 While some people were speaking about how the temple was adorned with costly stones and votive offerings, he said, 6 “All that you see here—the days will come when there will not be left a stone upon another stone that will not be thrown down.” 7 Then they asked him, “Teacher, when will this happen? And what sign will there be when all these things are about to happen?” 8 He answered, “See that you not be deceived, for many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he,’ and ‘The time has come.’ Do not follow them! 9 When you hear of wars and insurrections, do not be terrified; for such things must happen first, but it will not immediately be the end.” 10 Then he said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. 11 There will be powerful earthquakes, famines, and plagues from place to place; and awesome sights and mighty signs will come from the sky. 12 “Before all this happens, however, they will seize and persecute you, they will and you over to the synagogues and to prisons, and they will have you led before kings and governors because of my name. 13 It will lead to your giving testimony. 14 Remember, you are not to prepare your defense beforehand, 15 for I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute. 16 You will even be handed over by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends, and they will put some of you to death. 17 You will be hated by all because of my name, 18 but not a hair on your head will be destroyed. 19 By your perseverance you will secure your lives.
In Luke 21:5-19, we find a profound discourse by Jesus that sheds light on the trials and tribulations faced by His followers. As He foretells the destruction of the temple and the events that will precede His second coming, He emphasizes that His followers will face hatred, persecution, and betrayal. This is a sobering reminder that the love of Christ can sometimes lead to animosity in a world steeped in darkness.
When we realize that people may hate us because of our love for Jesus, it's crucial to respond not with animosity but with love and compassion. Hatred can easily become a cycle, breeding further division and suffering. Instead, Jesus calls us to a higher standard: to pray for those who oppose us. This can be incredibly challenging, particularly when the pain of rejection and persecution feels personal. However, it is through prayer that we can truly intercede for those who do not understand the joy of salvation and the transformative power of Christ’s love.
The people who persecute us often reflect their own struggles—lost, lonely, and languished. They may be grappling with emptiness or misunderstanding, unable to recognize the light that faith in Christ can bring. Our love and prayers for them can be a beacon of hope, illuminating the path to redemption. Persisting in prayer for our adversaries is not merely a way to seek their transformation but also a testament to our faith in God’s grace—a grace that can change hearts and lives.
In verses 18 and 19, Jesus provides reassurance: "But not a hair of your head will perish. By your endurance, you will gain your lives." This teaches us that our perseverance in love and prayer, even in the face of hatred, can bear fruit. So let us remain steadfast in our resolve, loving those who oppose us, fervently praying for their salvation, and believing in the miraculous change that God can make in their hearts. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. 11-16-2025 Luke 21 v0519
**You Will Be Hated By All Because of My Name**
In days of old, they spoke of stone,
A temple grand, where prayers were sown,
With beauty gilded, gold and might,
But whispers warned of coming night.
The disciples marveled, gazing wide,
At walls that stood with ancient pride,
Yet from the Master’s lips there fell,
A prophecy, an eternal truth to tell.
“Be not misled by signs so bright,
For falsehoods dance in veils of light.
Many will come, in my name they’ll tread,
But only I am the Way,” He said.
Jerusalem, oh city steeped in woe,
The hearts of many trembling below.
Nations will rise, in tumult and strife,
Marking the path of the end of life.
As trials come, don’t lose your grace,
For in your struggle, you’ll find your place.
Stand firm in faith, though fears may loom,
In every shadow, my love will bloom.
Deliverance won’t come without the fight,
But steadfast souls shall grasp the light.
For in your trials, a strength you'll find,
A deeper purpose, interwoven, aligned.
So cling to hope, when the hour is near,
Your endurance births a faith that's clear.
For not a hair shall fall unmeasured,
In trials faced, your truth is treasured. Amen.
