The Gospel of Luke Chapter 21 Verse One thru Four

1 When he looked up he saw some wealthy people putting their offerings into the treasury 2 and he noticed a poor widow putting in two small coins. 3 He said, “I tell you truly, this poor widow put in more than all the rest; 4 for those others have all made offerings from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has offered her whole livelihood.”

In Luke 21:1-4, we encounter a profound moment where Jesus observes people placing their offerings into the temple treasury. Among the wealthy donors, who contribute large sums, He notices a poor widow who puts in two small copper coins, known as leptons. Jesus highlights her act, stating, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them.” This declaration challenges the conventional understanding of generosity and sacrifice.

The widow's contribution, though seemingly meager, symbolizes a deep and sacrificial commitment to God. She gave all that she had—her livelihood—while the wealthy gave out of their abundance. This act of giving until it hurts reflects a profound truth about true generosity. It's not merely the amount given that matters, but the heart and sacrifice behind it. Christ calls us to consider what we are willing to part with in our pursuit of His Kingdom.

In our modern contexts, we may be tempted to give comfortably, avoiding any real impact on our lifestyles. However, Jesus’ teaching reminds us that genuine faith often requires us to step beyond our comfort zones and question our priorities. Are we holding back from giving our time, resources, or talents because it might cost us too much?

As we reflect on the widow’s example, we are invited to embrace a radical generosity that transcends our material concerns, trusting that our sacrifices contribute to the advancement of God’s Kingdom. In doing so, we align ourselves with Christ’s call to live lives marked by love and selflessness. Ultimately, true giving embraces both joy and sacrifice; it challenges us to embody the very essence of Christ’s love. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. Ephesians 6:17-20

11-24-2025 Luke 21 v0104

**She Has Offered Her Whole Livelihood **

In the temple's shadowed grace,

Where the faithful come and go,

A widow stood with a quiet face,

Her offering, so small, like snow.

With two copper coins, she gave,

A gesture pure, sincere, and bright,

While wealthy men withdrew their wave,

Their gifts seemed grand but lacked her light.

For in her heart, a treasure dwelled,

She offered all, her hope, her trust,

In her small act, the truth propelled—

The measure is in love without lust.

So let us learn from her refrain,

In simple gifts, the sacred flows;

For in the end, what we proclaim—

Is worth more than the world bestows. Amen.
