The Gospel of Luke Chapter 17 Verse Five thru Ten
5 And the apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.” 6 The Lord replied, “If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you would say to [this] mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.7 “Who among you would say to your servant who has just come in from plowing or tending sheep in the field, ‘Come here immediately and take your place at table’? 8 Would he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare something for me to eat. Put on your apron and wait on me while I eat and drink. You may eat and drink when I am finished’? 9 Is he grateful to that servant because he did what was commanded?10 So should it be with you. When you have done all you have been commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we were obliged to do.’
In Luke 17:5-10, the apostles ask Jesus to increase their faith. In response, He speaks of the mustard seed, indicating that even a small amount of faith can yield significant results. Jesus illustrates this with a parable about unprofitable servants, emphasizing that even when they do their duty, they should not expect to be rewarded as if they’ve done something extraordinary.
When Jesus refers to “unprofitable servants,” He is teaching humility and the understanding that serving God is not about earning favor or accolades; it’s about responding to His command out of love and obedience. The idea of being "unprofitable" does not diminish their worth but highlights that their service is a fundamental expectation of faith. It reminds us that God’s grace is given freely, and our obedience is not a transaction for His love, but a natural response to it.
Increasing one's faith, even if it is as small as a mustard seed, stems from intentionality and practice. Faith grows through prayer, studying Scripture, and engaging in community with other believers. Like nurturing a seed, tending to our faith requires regular care—a commitment to deepen our relationship with God. This may involve reflecting on past experiences of God’s faithfulness, participating in acts of service, or seeking God in the quiet moments of life.
In essence, Jesus is encouraging us to embrace a posture of humble service while recognizing that even a small quantity of genuine faith can lead to righteous acts and extraordinary outcomes. The journey of faith is not measured by what we achieve, but by our reliance on God and His ability to work through us, even in the seemingly small moments of our daily lives. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. Day two Novena prayers of Kayley. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

**We Are Unprofitable Servants**
In whispered words, the apostles came,
"Increase our faith," they called His name.
With eyes of hope, they sought the light,
In humble hearts, a yearning bright.
“A mustard seed,” the Savior spoke,
A truth so simple, yet profound as oak.
Though small it seems, in soil confined,
With faith, great mountains we can find.
Unprofitable servants, our duty to bear,
In love and grace, we learn to care.
Not for rewards or praises sung,
But in His service, our hearts are sprung.
With every prayer, and every deed,
Our faith takes root—a living seed.
In trials faced, we turn to Him,
In every struggle, we overcome sin.
So let us walk on this faithful way,
Unseen by eyes, yet guiding day.
For in our service, though small it seems,
We weave together His kingdom dreams. Amen.
