The Gospel of Luke Chapter 10 Verse 25 thru 37
25 There was a scholar of the law who stood up to test him and said, “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” 26 Jesus said to him, “What is written in the law? How do you read it?”27 He said in reply, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” 28 He replied to him, “You have answered correctly; do this and you will live.” 29 But because he wished to justify himself, he said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” 30 Jesus replied, “A man fell victim to robbers as he went down from Jerusalem to Jericho. They stripped and beat him and went off leaving him half-dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down that road, but when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side. 32 Likewise a Levite came to the place, and when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side. 33 But a Samaritan traveler who came upon him was moved with compassion at the sight. 34 He approached the victim, poured oil and wine over his wounds and bandaged them. Then he lifted him up on his own animal, took him to an inn and cared for him. 35 The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper with the instruction, ‘Take care of him. If you spend more than what I have given you, I shall repay you on my way back.’ 36 Which of these three, in your opinion, was neighbor to the robbers’ victim?” 37 He answered, “The one who treated him with mercy.” Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”
Luke 10:25-37 presents the parable of the Good Samaritan, a powerful story that challenges our understanding of what it means to love our neighbor. In this passage, an expert in the law asks Jesus how to inherit eternal life. Jesus responds by asking him what is written in the Law, and the man correctly cites the commands to love God fully and to love one’s neighbor as oneself. However, seeking to justify himself, the expert then asks, “And who is my neighbor?”
In response, Jesus tells the story of a man traveling from Jerusalem to Jericho, who is attacked by robbers and left half-dead. Several people pass by without helping—the priest and the Levite, both of whom are respected figures in society. Their neglect highlights how easy it is to ignore the needs of others in pursuit of our own priorities or adherence to rules. But then, a Samaritan, a member of a group despised by the Jews, stops to assist the injured man. He tends to his wounds, takes him to an inn, and ensures he receives care, showcasing a love and mercy that transcends societal boundaries.
This parable compels each of us to examine our own hearts. Do we truly love the Lord our God with all our heart and soul? If we do, then our love must manifest in our actions, particularly in our treatment of others. Are we willing to step outside of our comfort zones to offer compassion and mercy, just as the Good Samaritan did?
So, I ask you: do you love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul? If so, go and share mercy in everything you do. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Ephesians 6:17-20

**Go and Do Likewise**
In the shadow of a question, the lawyer stood so tall,
"How find eternal life?" he asked, wanting to know it all.
“Love the Lord with heart and soul," the answer came so bright,
Yet he probed deeper still, searching for the light.
A traveler set forth, on a road both rocky and bare,
Fell prey to ruthless robbers, lost in pain and despair.
They stripped him of his garments, left him bruised and bound,
And as he lay in silence, no mercy could be found.
A priest approached the scene, with thoughts of duty clear,
Yet his heart was wrapped in caution, and he chose to disappear.
A Levite passed him by, with eyes averted fast,
For their laws and rituals seemed more than love could grasp.
But then, a Samaritan, scorned by the faithful few,
Came forth with heart wide open, in compassion he withdrew.
He knelt beside the wounded and bandaged every scar,
With oil and wine for healing, he traveled near and far.
He lifted him with kindness and placed him on his beast,
To an inn of refuge, where love would be released.
He paid the toll for care, and promised more to come,
In this act of mercy, the heart of God was spun.
“Who proved to be the neighbor?” Jesus asked with gentle grace,
The lawyer, now aware, said, “The one who showed his face.”
“Go and do likewise,” He urged with love so pure and true,
For in our acts of kindness, we can find our Savior too.
So as we walk our journey, let compassion be our guide,
For in each heartache witnessed, love and mercy will abide.
Embrace the call of kindness, let our hearts ever sway,
In every act of giving, we find the Good Samaritan’s way. Amen.
