The Gospel of Luke Chapter 10 Verse 17 thru 24
17 The seventy[-two] returned rejoicing, and said, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us because of your name.” 18 Jesus said, “I have observed Satan fall like lightning from the sky. 19 Behold, I have given you the power ‘to tread upon serpents’ and scorpions and upon the full force of the enemy and nothing will harm you. 20 Nevertheless, do not rejoice because the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice because your names are written in heaven.” 21 At that very moment he rejoiced [in] the holy Spirit and said, “I give you praise, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. 22 All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.” 23 Turning to the disciples in private he said, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. 24 For I say to you, many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, but did not see it, and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it.”
Today, as we celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, we are reminded of the profound message encapsulated in Luke 10:17-24. This passage recounts the joy of the seventy-two disciples who returned to Jesus, exclaiming, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.” Jesus, in turn, shares a deep joy, stating, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.” He emphasizes the power granted to His followers while reminding them that their true source of joy should come from the knowledge that their names are written in the Kingdom of Heaven.
St. Francis embodies this spirit of childlike faith and joy in the Lord. Known for his humility and profound love for creation, he embraced a life of simplicity, seeing the world with the eyes of a child. Francis recognized that to proclaim the Kingdom of God effectively, one must possess the heart of a child, filled with wonder, trust, and joy in God’s love. He rejoiced always, fully aware that his true security and identity lay in being a beloved son of the Father.
Francis’s life was a testament to the joy that flows from a humble heart. He welcomed poverty, embraced the marginalized, and celebrated all of God’s creation. In doing so, he fulfilled Jesus's call to declare God’s kingdom not merely through words but through actions steeped in love and compassion.
As we reflect on Luke 10:17-24 today, let us remember the transformative power of childlike faith. We are called to rejoice in our own identities as children of God, with names written in the Kingdom of Heaven. Like St. Francis, may we embrace a life of joy and simplicity, proclaiming the Good News and living out our faith authentically. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. Novena prayers of Kayley. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

**You Have Revealed Them to the Childlike**
In joy they came, the seventy-two,
With hearts aflame and spirits new,
“Lord, even demons heed Your call,
In Your great name, they stumble and fall.”
"Rejoice not just in power attained,
But in the grace that’s uncontained;
For names are written high above,
In the expanse of Heaven's great joyful love."
With childlike faith, let hearts embrace,
The wonder found in His sweet grace;
For simple joys, like birds in flight,
Reveal the truth, our guiding light.
As Francis lived, with awe and cheer,
In all creation, Christ was near;
He saw the world in colors bright,
Reflecting God’s pure, endless light.
The humble heart, the way made clear,
Transforms our lives, dispelling all fear;
In kindness shared, we find our song,
A symphony where humanity does belong.
So let us walk in paths of peace,
In every moment, let love increase;
For in each step, God's kingdom grows,
A garden of love where redemption flows.
In joyful hearts, let praises rise,
As we pray to Heaven in the skies;
For every name, a sacred gem,
In the Kingdom of God, we find our eternal hymn. Amen.
