The Gospel of Luke Chapter 14 v- 26 thru 27

26 “If any one comes to Me without hating his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple. 27 Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after me cannot be My disciple.”

When we hate our life and even our own family but love the surrender to carrying our own Cross for Jesus, we obtain a sense of purpose and fulfillment in following Jesus' teachings and example. We may find solace in the idea that our struggles and sacrifices are aligned with a higher purpose and bring us closer to God. The love for surrendering to carrying our own Cross signifies a willingness to endure hardships and challenges for the sake of our faith and the principles we believe in. This can bring a sense of inner peace, strength, and a deepening of our spiritual connection with Jesus.

"If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple." It is important to understand that this statement is not meant to be taken literally but rather as a figure of speech. The phrase "hate his own life" is a strong contrast used by Jesus to emphasize the level of devotion and commitment required to follow Him. It does not imply that we should actually hate our lives or the people in it, but rather that our love for Jesus and our commitment to Him should be so strong that it appears as if we are prioritizing Him over everything else.

Carrying one's own cross is also a metaphor used by Jesus to illustrate the cost and sacrifice that discipleship entails. In the time of Jesus, carrying a cross was a symbol of shame, suffering, and death. By using this metaphor, Jesus is teaching that following Him requires a willingness to endure hardship, persecution, and even potential sacrifice of one's life. Our surrender is a powerful way to emphasize the level of commitment and devotion that Jesus expects from his followers. It highlights the need to prioritize one's faith and the teachings of Jesus above all else, even if it means enduring difficulties and sacrifices in bearing witness to bringing souls to Heaven here on earth. Amen.
