The Gospel of John Chapter 20 Verses One thru Two

1 On the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early in the morning, while it was still dark, and saw the stone removed from the tomb. 2 So she ran and went to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them, “They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we don’t know where they put him.”

In the Gospel of John, chapter 20, verses 1-2 describe a pivotal moment in Christian history: the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Early on that first day of the week, Mary Magdalene makes her way to the tomb, only to discover that the stone has been rolled away. Distraught, she runs to inform Peter and another disciple, proclaiming, "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him." This encounter highlights Mary's crucial role as the first witness to the resurrection, emphasizing her importance in the early Christian community.

Mary Magdalene's recognition of Jesus as the Risen Christ ultimately led to her canonization as a saint in the Catholic Church. Saints are individuals who have lived exemplary lives of faith and virtue, and Mary's unwavering devotion to Jesus, including her presence at the crucifixion and her role in the resurrection, underscores her holiness. As a witness to the most significant event in Christianity, she embodies hope and renewal, traits that resonate deeply with the Christian message.

Mary Magdalene's feast day is celebrated on July 22 each year. Initially considered a minor feast, her significance grew over the centuries, culminating in Pope Francis declaring 2016 that her feast should be of equal rank to that of the apostles. This move highlights the acknowledgment of her vital contributions to the faith and positions her not merely as a follower, but as a leader within the early Church.

Therefore, Mary Magdalene's legacy as a saint is profoundly rooted in her fidelity, her role as a herald of Christ’s resurrection, and her enduring symbol of faith, hope, and redemption makes her a saint anyone can look up to. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. Ephesians 6:17-20

07-22-2025 John 20 v0102

**Feast of Mary Magdala**

Before the dawn, in shadows deep,

Mary comes, her vigil to keep,

To the tomb where her Lord once lay,

Heart heavy with grief on that fateful day.

The stone is gone, the grave stands bare,

A whisper of hope hangs in the air,

“Where is my Master?” her voice does rise,

In the silence, her faith defies.

She runs to share the news so bright,

The miracle of the morning light,

For in her heart, a truth takes flight:

“Christ is risen; He is our light!” Amen.
